UNIT I
                                 PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

            Differences in Attitudes

Attitude is a person's inner thoughts and feelings.
A predisposition or a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain idea, object,
            person, or situation.

            Differences in achievement

Achievement is something which someone has succeeded in doing, especially after a lot of
            effort.

            Emotional differences

Individuals differ in their emotional reactions to a particular situation. Some are irritable and
aggressive and they get angry very soon.

There are others who are of peaceful nature and do not get angry easily.

            SPECIFIC FACTORS INFLUENCING DIFFERENCES

                   1. HEREDITY

Individuals inherit various physical traits like face with its features, color of eyes and
hair, type of skin, shape of skull and size of hands, color blindness, baldness, stub-
finger and tendency to certain diseases like cancer and tuberculosis, mental traits like
intelligence, abstract thinking, aptitudes and prejudices.

                   2. SEX DIFFERENCES

Development of boys and girls exhibits differences in sex. The physical development of the
girl takes place a year or two earlier than the boys.

                   3. AGE DIFFERENCES AND PERSONAL ADJUSTMENT

Age represents the learner’s level of maturity and hence his possible educability. It is bound
be factor of difference. Even though a four-year old child may be mentally superior, on account
                       of his level of maturation.

                   4. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY BACKGROUND

Studies in psychology have shown that there exist wide variation among members of different
families. That successive generations of some families do exhibit varying specific abilities is
                       widely accepted
