UNIT I
                                 PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

                                                        MODULE 6
                                                   TEMPERAMENT

            Objective:
            At the end of the module;

                a. The learner can understand the concept of temperament and how it affects his or her
                learning.
                b. The learner can distinguish different type of emotions and how to handle them.

                c. The learner can gain knowledge on how to adjust with frustrations and how to eradicate
                undesirable emotional behaviour.

            Activity: Emotion Role-Play

The goal is for the learner to identify the different types of emotion and how to
acknowledge it to the learner’s advantage.

Arrange the class into 5 groups with each group assigned with a type of emotion. Let the
group come up with a role play and act the type of emotion that is assigned to them. Make sure
            that everyone participates.

            What is temperament?

Temperament describes individual styles or the “how” of behavior. These personal
characteristics can be seen when children are playing with friends, doing their math
assignment, or watching television. We all recognize children who are always on the go, as
compared to others who move at a slow and deliberate pace. We also know children who are
overly intense, who have a short fuse, and who are easily irritated and upset. Still other
children are shy, uneasy in new situations and with new people. These individual differences
            in temperament are:

             biologically based

             apparent early in life
 characteristic of individuals over time and in different situations.

Temperament consists of the individual differences in emotion, motor activation and attentional
reaction to stimuli. Temperament shapes children’s outcomes and influences the way they
interact with their environment and how adults and children respond to them.
