P. 36

Now that you are able to change your thought patterns from negative to positive
should you desire to do so, it is time to take this one step further. If we can learn to
recognise negative emotions when we feel them, we can then begin to replace them
with their opposite: Something positive. Obviously, LOVE is the single most positive
emotion. Is hatred then, the most negative? I think not. Take a few minutes to ponder
this question. I think the answer to may surprise you.

Try to put aside all of your preconceived notions of love and hate for a moment. We
all know what love is and how it feels, but what do we really know about hate? What
does it feel like to hate? Sometimes it may feel like anger or resentment or even envy,
but does it ever really feel like hate? What does hate feel like? Does anyone really
know? I do not think so. Perhaps such a thing does not even exist.

The truth is that HATRED is not actually the opposite of love. It is merely a by-
product of the true opposite of LOVE, which I believe to be GREED. The absence of
love is what allows human beings to feel greedy and to act on that emotion. This, in
turn, leads to numerous other negative emotions. If GREED did not exist in our
society, HATRED and countless other negative emotions would be an entirely useless
feeling. Without greed, there would be only LOVE and Positive energy forces.
Because of greed and our lust for the finer things in life, mankind has created hatred.

Along with so many of our other negative emotions, hatred would eventually become
obsolete if we could find it in our hearts to love our neighbours, our friends and our
selves. While some negative emotions are quite necessary in our natural defence
mechanisms and for self-healing, many others are nothing but destructive, and
                   therefore, entirely useless.

Because we can never change the past, emotions which some of us tend to hold on to
such as guilt, blame or regret are simply destructive. They allow us to hold on to the
negativity created by an unpleasant experience. By pointing the finger of blame or
feeling guilty, the wound left after a bad experience remains open and as fresh as the
day it first appeared. Only by letting go of the destructive emotion and moving on will
the negative energy be able to move away from you. In order to release negativity, it is
necessary to change it in to a positive energy force.
