RECOGNIZING AND NAMING YOUR FEELINGS

Joy: A sense of exhilaration all over the body which may be accompanied by
a feeling of lightness. A surge of adrenalin may enhance your sense of
self and you may feel warm all over.

Anger: A powerful gut feeling which is followed by muscle tension in your
Shoulders and back. This is accompanied by an adrenalin rush and
increase in blood flow through your whole body.

Sadness: A small empty feeling that usually starts in the head or throat and may
continue to build up until it ends in tears. You may also experience a
hollow feeling in the gut or upper chest particularly when a deep loss is
                                 experienced.

Shame: A feeling of being worthless, bad, or unlovable that usually occurs in the
lower gut but can sometimes be felt in the genital area.

Fear: Usually felt in the upper chest and cardio-pulmonary passages. It may
be felt as a sense of dread or anxiety and may eventually spread
                                 throughout the entire body.

Guilt: The feeling of a heavy burden or responsibility. It may urge you to act
in a way that corrects the situation.

Hurt: A feeling as if you’ve been punched in the stomach or a sense of betrayal
or violation. May also feel like a pit in the stomach.

Safety: A comfortable warm feeling that everything is okay and that you are
connected with the universe and with others. Usually felt throughout
                                 the entire body.

Loneliness: A feeling as though you are empty or separate from others. May feel as
though you are disconnected from humanity in general and usually
                                 companionship is non-existent.
