Staying active:
It has been well proven with research that physical exercise
reduces the effects of disorders such as depression and
anxiety. It also helps with secondary problems like raising self-
esteem and reducing the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Tip: If you don’t have time for
the gym take the kids to the park
and play a game of soccer or tag.
Not only does this get you active
and outdoors but it also gets
your children participating. Both
of these things are important to
their health and wellbeing as
well as yours and gives you time
to bond.
Get enough sleep:
Many people with a mental illness have trouble sleeping yet
lack of sleep causes our bodies and brains to become
stressed. This in turn can lead to an individual’s condition
worsening.
Avoid alcohol and other drugs:
Drug and alcohol use can often have negative impacts on a
person’s mental wellbeing, causing lack of sleep, anxiety,
depression and paranoia. Many metal illness are often
caused or exacerbated by prolonged drug or alcohol use.
