FIGURE 7-13:
Share a SharePoint site with external users.
When an external user does a search at your site, the search results will be limited to the content they have access to within your SharePoint Online environment only.
There are other advanced features that aren’t available to external users, such as accessing site mailboxes, features related to reporting and analytics (Power BI), and opening restricted/protected documents.
External sharing is enabled by default in SharePoint Online. If you want to disable this feature, refer to Chapter 5.
To share a site, click the Share button on the top navigation bar, enter the recipi- ent’s email address, specify the permission, and then click the Share button (see Figure 7-13). SharePoint will display a helpful reminder that the email address you entered is outside of your organization.
If your SharePoint site was created with external sharing disabled, you will not be able to share the site and will instead get an alert to let you know external sharing is not allowed.
