From multiple devices
Microsoft has released versions of Outlook for all types of devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Android phones and tablets. You don’t have to use a Windows PC in order to be productive with Outlook wherever and whenever you want.
In the past, Mac users have faced a difficult decision. Use a Mac and struggle with compatibility with the corporate email system or use a PC and use Outlook for full integration. Exchange Online supports the popular Outlook, which is part of Office 2019 for Mac. Outlook on a Mac provides similar integration to Outlook for the PC. By using Outlook on your Mac, you can access your Exchange Online email, calendars, tasks, and contacts.
From any email client
Exchange Online supports all the standard email protocols, including IMAP, POP, and SMTP. As a result, you can use any email client you like to send and receive email.
If you want advanced functionality, such as calendaring and meetings, contacts, tasks, and advanced email features, such as presence information for contacts, then you need Microsoft Outlook as your email client.
Manage inbox overload
The number of email most people send and receive in a given day is amazing! If you are like many office workers, your inbox can quickly become overloaded and your productivity drained just looking at all the unread messages. Exchange Online attempts to help you manage your email by using a number of different features. We cover using Outlook to boost your productivity in Chapter 4.
One of the most important features is that you can access your email any time and from any location that has either cell reception for your smartphone or a com- puter with a web browser and Internet connection. This feature allows you to stay current with your email on your own time and not just when you are sitting in front of your work computer staring at hundreds of unread emails. Have some downtime while waiting for the bus? Twiddling your thumbs at the doctor’s office? Get caught up on your email and find out whether that important proposal has arrived.
Some other features that Microsoft has recently rolled out in Outlook also help you manage email overload. One particularly useful feature is called Clutter. The Clut- ter feature learns which email is important to you and which emails are, well, just clutter. It then moves the annoying email to a folder called “Clutter” and lets you focus on the email you find important.
