They Key

Even after 30 years, the silver will still shine bright in the light. If you look closely, it has small holes and

cuts, but it retains its charm, just like the moon. On its old tarnished bumpy surface, your blurry reflection

will be visible. It's just a simple key, but it's full of mystery and history. The bow of the key is a triangular

shape, with an unusually short blade. The blade only has three uneven cuts. It appears as if it’s an ancient

artifact, roughly shaped, but there are precisely sculpted flowers on the head - five small flowers joined

by a narrow stem and leaves. You can tell it was used to be colored, but...

The colors have faded with time.

My grandfather gave me this key just before he left to live abroad. He was a short old man with snow-
white hair and a diamond-pure heart. He would spend the majority of his time in his enormous garden,

which contained 50 different species of flowers of various colors. When I go there to play, strong sweet

scents come at me from every direction, making me lose track of time, as if I'm lost in my dreams.

However, I was not allowed to run freely because he loved his plants more than anything else in the
world. Soon after, as he grew older and older, he was unable to properly take care of his plants, and the

giant jungle of beauty shrank to only about 20 flowers. Even a kid like me could see how miserable he

was, but he always tried to stay positive with smiley face and gave me a gift before leaving.

Although I was never told what the key in the gift was, I knew it was something special to my grandpa. I
attached it to chain and wore it as a necklace to keep it close to my heart all the time. I feel as if I’m with

my grandpa which gave me endless comfort. About 5 years have passed since I got the key and we finally

decided to visit the garden. The garden, covered in dust and emptiness. At the end of the garden, I

discovered a tiny door. It was made of dried-out wood that has faded from yellow and had the exact
same silver handle as the key with flowers on it. I inserted the key and the door opened with “click"...
