Gender Equality
While some people argue that women should be treated equally as men and given the same opportunity to
work in the professional fields, on the opposite side, others believe women cannot perform some tasks that can
be done best by men. In this essay, I am going to discuss both views on this contentious topic followed by my
own opinion in the conclusion.
To begin with, it is undeniably true that women can be biologically and physically weaker than men.
Therefore, some work that requires body strength can be difficult and tiring for women such as
construction, mining, and factory work. Even employers of this type of job do not recruit women. For
example, in the US, only 10.9% of all workers at a construction site are women and even women rarely
make up 14% of all executive positions in the construction industry. However, nowadays, women can do
many jobs that require physical power with the help of many types of machinery such as lifters.
Alternatively, women are proven to be more intelligent, responsible, and patient when it comes to any work.
They can perform any given task under pressure and their productivity is mostly better than men due to their
developed organizational skills and ability to connect with their colleagues more emotionally. For instance,
according to research conducted at the University of Georgia and Columbia, women are gifted with a variety of
skills and competencies that transcend the domain of cognitive performance; that is, attention and memory.
This means women with these skills and their commitments to delivering excellence in the workplace have
absolute right and ability to do jobs that most men do.
In conclusion, even though there are several jobs that women cannot achieve because of their physical
weakness, due to technological evolutions, these jobs can be both performed by men and women. Therefore, it is
proven by researchers that women can be as efficient as men when it comes to intelligence and even they tend
to show more responsibility for a few tasks.
Lastly, looking at these facts, I think women and men should be provided with equal opportunities to do any
job they want.
