REFERENCE CHECKS
You have found the perfect candidate or so you think . . . Past performance
is often the best indicator of future performance so do you due diligence
and CALL their references .
How to Handle References
It is important to do a reference check to make sure you get the right
person for the job and confirm that the candidate has been truthful about
his or her background and skills . The reference check is typically the last
step before extending the offer .
Candidates will give you references to contact . Understand that those are
typically supportive of the candidate . If you are handling the references,
be very careful when conducting this step and only contact authorized
individuals prior to extending the offer .
Post hire, you may decide to dig a bit deeper and contact the employees
prior direct supervisor .
