                                              Simply Explained Using SPSS


                                  Chi Square Test in SPSS

               1.      Used to find the relationship between two
                       categorical variables.

               2.      The purpose of a Chi-Square is to compare the observed
                       frequencies to expected frequencies

               3.      Contingency table used to summarize frequencies within
                       levels of each variable

               1.        :  There is no association between the two variables;

                       there is no difference between the observed values and
                       the expected values.

               2.        : There is a relationship between the two variables.



               Example:
               1.      You want to know if there is a relationship between having
                       diabetes and diet.  Of the 45 patients who had diabetes, 10
                       had a proper diet, and of the 955 cases of patients without
                       diabetes, 490 had proper diets.


               Select crosstabs
               Click on the “Analyze” tab and Select “Descriptive Statistics” from
               the list Select “Crosstabs”
