Bar Manager Ziggy has introduced Bar Sangers (cheese / ham / tomato) at a cost of $4.00 for those seeking
something more substantial than potato chips etc., during late evening drinks and functions (60/40 dance / etc) at
               the Sub Branch.

               Harefield Flag:

The Harefield Flag is now in a secure environment at Adelaide High School, as benefiting a Flag first woven in
approximately 1852 (as determined from the weave) and of immense historical importance to both the United
Kingdom and Australia. The Flag, being reputedly flown at the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War by the Earl of
Cardigan in the Charge of the Light Brigade. Then, later used to drape over the coffins of the corteges of the 112
                                                                                st
Australians including 8 South Australians who died of sickness or wounds at the 1 . Australian Auxiliary Hospital
(1AAH), Harefield UK during WW1 and are buried in the St Mary’s Church Harefield Commonwealth War Graves
Cemetery. 50,000 Australian personnel were treated at 1AAH Harefield during WW1.

The Harefield community also commenced an ANZAC Day tradition in 1921, with the Harefield Junior schoolchildren
children placing flowers and Australian flags on the 112 graves, the Harefield community conducting a ANZAC Day
Service, then followed by a Church Service at St Mary’s Church. This continues to this day as does the link between
the Harefield Schools and Adelaide High School, evolving from when AHS sent food parcels to Harefield during both
WW1 and WW2. The Flag was painstakingly restored through the generosity of the AHS Old Scholar’s community,
School and a State Government grant. The below photograph of the restored Harefield Flag refers.
