As you add an infinite number of harmonics you will get a
perfect square wave.
As you can see with 9 harmonics the square shape is
taking place.
The size of the harmonics are calculated from the
following,

When you look into this series, you will see odd functions
and even functions and this makes the calculations easier.
Timbre is the name given
to a particular sound.
From the timbre and
experienced listener can
determine if a machine
has a problem. In the
days of steam, there was
a wheel tapper who would tap the wheels to find out if
there cracks in the wheels (more later).
