It is customary for a swan to have a single mate
throughout its lifetime and they can produce several
chicks every year and they are called cygnets. You can
see the cygnets on the Swan's back in the second
photo.
In England it is illegal for anyone to catch swans, as
every swan in the nation belongs to the Queen.
Sometimes for very special banquets at Cambridge
University they have swans on the menu, but they
need a special dispensation from the Queen to be
allowed to eat swans.
