Child Pads
When defibrillating a child younger than 8 years or less than 25 kilograms you should
use child pads. Child
pads are usually placed
in the centre of the chest and the other pad placed in the centre of the back. The location that the pads are to be placed will be labeled on the pads.
Child pads have different circuitry that will reduce the energy levels during defibrillation to a level suitable for a child.
Pacemakers and Cardiac Implants
Where the casualty has an installed pacemaker identifiable by a scar on the upper chest. Ensure the pads are placed a minimum of 8cm away from the implant location.
