Hydrogen is used in chemical processing to manufacture
ammonia and methanol. Hydrogen is used in the food
industry to hydrogenate liquid oils to make shortenings,
margarine and peanut butter, for example. It is also
used in the hydrogenation of non-edible oils to make
soaps, insulation and plastics.
