FROM THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Happy Autumn! I hope that you are enjoying these early days of fall – it's
my favorite season. Leaves from the trees are changing into a multitude
of colors – it’s nature's stunning artwork. As we begin the last quarter
of the year, it is also a time to reflect on what has transpired, but to also
plan for next year.
As many of you are aware, the board and staff have been working
towards the next AIA Connecticut 5-year strategic plan. Last month, two
town halls were held, and members had the opportunity to ponder and
discuss principal issues and what is most important to AIA Connecticut.
Discussions were lively and insightful. For all who attended these
sessions, answered surveys, responded to phone calls, and gave input,
we thank you. It started us on the right track to develop this critical plan.
Once the strategic plan is drafted, it will be shared with the membership.
The 2018 AIA Connecticut Annual Conference was a tremendous
success! This year close to 300 people joined us for a full day – over
150 AIA Members attended sessions, 60 Allied Partners exhibited, 35
presenters offered a wide variety of HSW classes and 2 amazing keynote
speakers addressed the membership. This is the largest conference to
date! Thanks to all the underwriters, sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and
attendees for taking part in this year’s forum. Special thanks to my staff
who did a tremendous job in coordinating all aspects, prior to, and on
the conference day.
We hope to see you at one of the many upcoming education sessions
or tours. I’m looking forward to the ARCHItalks - In the Footsteps of
Vitruvius: Design and Construction Durability Principles and Lessons
Learned from the Hands-on Study of Historic Construction Details in
Rome, having just visited there. A complete list and links to register is in
the UPCOMING EVENTS.
As always, I welcome your thoughts, suggestions and ideas. Stop by,
call, or email – I always look forward to hearing from the membership.
Best,
