                                                                                                                                      Welcome to fall. The temperatures are declining and fall rains have begun.
                                                                                                                                      Hurricane Florence and our recent 8 ½” deluge in Hamden remind me that
              SAVE THE DATE:                                                                                                          AIA’s  Disaster  Assistance  Program  trains  architect  volunteers  to  provide
                                                                                                                                      building safety inspections in disaster areas. I know of several Architects in
                                                                                                                                      Connecticut who have received this training. The recent storms also reinforce
      STAMFORD SHOWROOM                                                                                                               the importance of resilience in design as well as the need to mitigate the
                                                                                                                                      effects of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by
                                                                                                                                      building energy use.

                                                                                                                                      earlier this month when students, faculty, staff, and alumni participated in the
       OCTOBER 18 3pm-6pm                                                                                                             Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco.  Yale is testing the impact of

                                                                                                                                      an internal price on emissions as part of the university’s sustainability efforts.
                                                                                                                                      The program provides financial incentives to offices and departments across
        147 SELLECK STREET                                                                                                            campus for reducing the amount of carbon dioxide they produce. Way to go,

                 STAMFORD CT                                                                                                          Change is in the air; in our weather patterns and in our practices. Our strategic
                                                                                                                                      planning committee, with our consultant Nancy Alexander, has been working
                                                                                                                                      diligently collecting background for our retreat on October 20th. In the past
                                                                                                                                      two weeks we held two town hall sessions that provided diverse ideas about
                                                                                                                                      the challenges our practices need to confront. We identified and collected
                                                                                                                                      members'  concerns.  Since  then  members  of  the  committee  have  been
                                                                                                                                      reaching out to a variety of stakeholders in the construction industry for their
                                                                                                                                      insight.  How best can AIA Connecticut serve its members in the future? This
                                                                                                                                      is an open process and we welcome any input, from you our members.
                                                                                                                                      Over 150 architects attended the 2018 AIA Connecticut Annual Conference &
                                                                                                                                      Expo.  It was a full day of seminars, two great keynote speakers, a filled exhibit
                                                                                                                                      hall  of  manufacturers  with  terrific  information  about  their  products  and
                                                                                                                                      services, along with the cocktail reception where the 2018 AIA Connecticut
                                                                                                                                      Design  Awards  winners  were  revealed.  You  won’t  want  to  miss  the  Gala
                                                                                                                                      scheduled for December 3rd at the Water View in Monroe. Invitations will
                                                                                                                                      be mailed out shortly, but tickets are now available on the AIA Connecticut
                                                                                                                                      website.
