“Thank you, your majesty,” E replied, fluttering like an
infatuated girl. “I choose the rename M and thank you so much, for
now I can be married!”
“Wonderful!” cried the prince. “Let us begin our life together,
you and I.”
M looked over a Swie, who was smiling in the way that dogs
do, his tongue hanging out, enthusiastically.
“I thank you, kind prince, “ M said, with a courtsey. “I have
dreamed of renaming myself for a long, long time. I am M now, and I can
start to live my own life at last.”
Prince Jardon smiled, well-satisfied, for his mission was
complete. Or so he thought it was.
“But I have a Renaming Wish, do I not?” M asked, blushing
like a young maiden in love (which she was).
“Of course you do,” replied the prince. “It is the law of the
land, and I cannot deny you that. It is out of my power.”
“Then, as M, my wish is to marry a
local boy named Yaj,” she informed him.
And with that, she gathered her
things together and left her grandfather’s
house forever, Swie trailing behind her, proud of his mistress and well-
pleased that she’d used her wits to free herself, for anger wouldn’t
have worked.
