“You’ve always told me to use my wits rather than my anger,”
she reminded him. “And that’s just what I plan to do. For some reason,
this prince has decided he wants to marry me, though I have no idea
why. Somehow, I must think up a way to use this is to my advantage.”
When PrinceJardon entered the cottage and saw E standing
there, he smiled.
“I was passing through the village the other day,” he explained,
“and I saw you there. You are the most beautiful maiden I have ever
laid eyes on, and I’ve decided to take you as my own.”
E was about to cry out that no man, her grandfather or a
prince, would ever own her in that way, but she refrained, keeping
Swie’s wise advice in mind.
“I must keep my head,” she reminded herself. “I must think
clearly and not let my anger get the best of me.”
E’s grandfather apologized to the prince for the humble
nature of his cottage, but
the grand man paid no heed.
His eyes were on E. He
was accustomed to
possessing whatever he
desired, and at the present
moment, E was the center
of his universe.
