Data compilation, storage and analysis have got a boost with the introduction of
TPAs
TPAs have emerged as the custodian of enrolment and claims data for their clients
TPAs usually store the data in ready-made available software for such purposes.
The data collected by TPAs may have significant variations in terms of quality and
consistency.
Earlier TAC was acting as the data repository since the year 2004. TAC published
health insurance data reporting manual which contains detailed instructions on
acceptable data structures.
In 2009, IRDA created Insurance Information Bureau(IIB) to act as a data repository.
Now all the data relating to Indian insurance industry is handled by Insurance
Information Bureau.
IRDA has made it mandatory for all the insurers to submit the information to the
bureau in the specified formats within the time limits as fixed by IRDA.
