Double check, make sure you have everything you need within arm’s reach, and light
that puppy up! As the feather sticks catch, add the pencil size sticks (kindling). Your
goal is to have several smaller dry sticks on fire before adding anything bigger. Move
onto slightly bigger dry pieces into the fire once there is a nice bed of coals at the
bottom. You can start to place larger damp pieces of wood around the fire to start
drying them out. If you add wet wood to the fire too quickly, then you could possibly put
it out. Also, wet wood melts more than it burns (try it sometime; you will see what I
mean). Good luck and keep your tinder dry!
