8. MANAGEMENT REPORT
8.1 Financial Reports
The meeting noted that Board members had approved the financial
report as presented in the board pack.
8.2 Consumer Assurance
VetApp
It was noted that the goal was to get all the pig veterinarians linked on
the VetApp, which will provide data on passive surveillance. Reports
generated from the APP will be used to provide re-assurance that
disease monitoring is taking place. A pilot was done in the Western Cape
to test the App, which went well. The role out of the App should take
place within the next 2 weeks.
Tattoo project
SAPPO has 2 pilot projects running on the tattoo project. A survey was
done on the 70 mentees of SAPPO and 31 already had tattoo marks
registered at DAFF. A questionnaire went out to the remainder of the
mentees who was not registered to establish what the reasons and
stumbling blocks are. Tattooing is the legal animal identification system
in South Africa for pigs
SAPPO wants to help clean up the government’s data base on behalf of
the commercial farmers.
Digitalisation of Pork360
Digitalisation of all Pork360 data & documents is being done to ensure
that all documents are available to members when required.
Mentorships
Mentorships and veterinary services are now separate services delivered
to mentees. The number of mentees grew from 7 to 70 through the BDMs.
Veterinarians have been appointed nationally to visit developing farmers
twice a year and give BDM’s support. These visits are all captured both
on the VetApp and BDM App.
Industry protection
The future free trade in Africa will impose a bigger risk on biosecurity
especially on monitoring the boarders. African Pig Veterinary Society will
therefore be an important vehicle to drive “standardisation”.
