2.9 Where any term is defined within the context of a particular clause in these Rules, it
shall bear the meaning ascribed to it for all purposes in terms of these Rules,

notwithstanding that that term has not been defined in this interpretation clause.

2.10 The expiration or termination of these regulations shall not affect such of the
provisions contained herein and are expressly provided that they will operate after
such expiration or termination or which of necessity must continue to have effect after
such expiration or termination, notwithstanding that the clauses themselves do not

expressly provide therefor.

3. NAME
3.1 The name of the Fund is the “SAPPO ASSISTANCE FUND”.

3.2 Notwithstanding clause 3.1, the Executive Board shall be entitled to, by unanimous
resolution, change the name of the Fund to such other name as they may in their

discretion deem to be appropriate.
4. ESTABLISHMENT

The Fund has been established on 1 September 2018, pursuant to resolutions to that
effect adopted by the Executive Board and the National Council on 25 July 2018 and 4

September 2018 respectively.

5. PURPOSE

5.1 The Fund has been established for the purpose of enabling SAPPO to take any and
all such appropriate and/or necessary measures to –

5.1.1 proactively and reactively manage the health and wellbeing of the South African

national pig herd;
5.1.2 protect commercial pork production and the pork value chain

5.1.3 provide timely and effective assistance to Stakeholders in respect of (but not
limited to) farming and operational practices, consumer education and

marketing, supplementary veterinary services, the prevention of diseases, the
management of disease outbreaks and legal liability issues,

(“Measures”).
