may obstruct objectivity in the critical thinking process. They must also be able to
analyze the time, place and social context the film is developed in. As a biographical
work, it is always useful to do some side research to verify the accuracy of the story
and gather some little more background elements to enhance the result. It is also
useful to pay special attention of the roles of the characters and the changes they
experiences along the movie. For example: How Ron’s attitude towards people
infected with HIV changes from believing that it was something exclusive of
homosexuals to admit that there are other sources of infection, one of which he
himself caught it through.
However, while the film might not drop the cumulative
emotional anchor you may expect (the ending is
rather abrupt), it’s a smartly entertaining tale,
delivered with respect for its subject matter, but also
wisely knows you can be fun and funny even in the
arena of an AIDS drama.
