New Mexico Classic Juvenile
RUN POTION
by John Moorehouse
Run Potion dashed to her first career win and her first victory in stakes company simultaneously, going gate to wire in the $16,000 New Mexico
Classic Juvenile held Nov. 9 at Zia Park.
A two-year-old filly home-bred by Bauer Farm LLC, Run Potion entered black type in her fourth
career out. She has raced exclusively in New Mexico to date.
This marked her debut in stakes company, and she made the most of it. The filly broke on top
from the inside starting gate, grabbed a 1/2-length advantage by the time she reached the first call, and never surrendered the lead. She remained in front
by a 1/2-length going into the stretch, then held off post-time favorite El Chevo during the final yards to prevail by a neck.
Michael Joiner trains Run Potion, who finished the 350-yard race in :17.990 and registered an 86 speed index. Benito Baca was aboard for the stakes win, which produced a $9,360 payday that roughly quadrupled the filly’s bankroll to $12,520.
Bauer Farm bred Run Potion out of winner Thirty Fourth Street. The mare has produced 100% money earners from 8 starters, including four stakes winners.
El Chevo (Osbaldo-Now I Know I Can TB), finished second for Cervando Molinar. The Osman Iturralde trainee had Omar Itturalde in the irons. Fly On Down (One Handsome Man-Never The Same) hit the board in third place for owner Dalia Aranda and trainer Tony Sedillo. Alfredo Sigala did the riding.
FS Maxximillian (Maxximuss-Pubsblazinfilly), Fantastico Dragon (Zulu Dragon-Jess Lookin), Have Another One (Jesse James Jr-Wish You Had One To), Blazinberryberryfast (Osbaldo-Strawberryberryfast), Cannelloni (Jess a Chicks-Machi Moon), Ember Moon (First Moonflash-Episode of Fire) and Moon Girl On Fire (Moonifisant-Shes Walking On Fire) completed the finishing order. .
