                 Ontario Sires Stakes Derby
JESS CAROLINAS AWARD

Jess Carolinas Award, the fastest qualifier from his Oct. 12 trial heat for the $41,621 Ontario Sires Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs, returned in the main event on Oct. 26 and notched the first stakes victory of his career.
With jockey Cory Spataro in the irons, Jess Carolinas Award broke alertly and grabbed the lead at the first call of the 350-yard test. He was pressured throughout but was never headed in the lane. At the finish, he defeated race favorite Shaken by a head in a determined effort, stopping the timer in :18.285.
The win marked the fourth lifetime score for the bay gelding. Owned and bred by Rick Crispi and trained by Tom Dunlap, Jess Carolinas Award improved his bankroll to $45,559 with the $16,649 winner’s share of the purse added to his coffers.
Crispi bred Jess Carolinas Award out of winner Jess Carolina. She has produced 100% money earn- ers from four starters. Jess Carolinas Award is her first stakes winner.
Shaken (Look At Magics Form-Shake Pretty Baby) was second under Cassandra Jeschke for owner and trainer Chantelle Bourgeois. Shaken is now multiple stakes-placed and had won two in a row before this second-place finish in the Ontario Sires Stakes Derby.
Down In Carolina (Azure Down There-Dinah Carolina) and jockey Ismael Mosqueira finished third for owner Amelie Aubut and trainer Carol McIntyre. The sorrel gelding is still seeking the initial win of his career.
Rowdy And Bodacious (Bodacious Jess-Make Us A Miracle), Pretty Runaway (Winners Award- Pretty Jane Perry), A Lone Hand (Azure Down There-Special Royal Takeon), Hanover Hill Chalsee (Make Out Artist-Secret Sugarwoman), Princesss Leia (Look At Magics Form-Katies Award) and Jess Gunnin (Mr Jess Tex-Cerveza) completed the order of finish. Shock The Clocker was scratched.
Picov Derby
EC GREYS ANATOMY

EC Greys Anatomy finished strong to secure his first-ever stakes victory, winning the $44,705 Picov Derby held at Ajax Downs on Sept. 28.
Breaking from the 9-post, EC Greys Anatomy was seventh going into the stretch then made a huge rush during the final yards, hitting the wire first by a head. Ed Walton was aboard for the stakes-winning trip.
Anna Rosiak owns EC Greys Anatomy, who is trained by Jason Pascoe and came into the derby as the fourth-quickest qualifier with a time ov :20.638 from the Sept. 14 trials. The gelding surpassed that in the final, finishing in :19.960 for a 97 speed index.
The three-year-old gray gelding got to the win- ner’s circle for the fourth time in 13 starts, with the $17,882 first-place share of the purse increasing his total earnings to $39,991. All four victories have come this year, part of a 13-4(1)-1-1 record in nine outs as a sophomore.
William E. Smith bred EC Greys Anatomy and owns his dam, CR Sugar N Spice, a 2007 mare who ran third in the Remington Park Futurity-G1. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. EC Greys Anatomy is her first stakes winner.
Eazy Street (Mighty B Valiant-Easily Holland), the post-time favorite at 3-2 odds, finished second for Carol and Jaime Robertson. The Bryn Robertson trainee had Tony Phillips in the irons.
Another Pascoe trainee, One Kool Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-One Kool Bud), placed third under Helen Vanek for owner Belinda Taggart.
Marianita CSJ (Chicks Regard- Carefulwithmyheart), Silken Siri (Desirio-Silken Memories), Sweet Night Fever (Sweet First Down-Do Ya Disco), The Kingsmann (Valiant Hero-Shez Jess Nice), CC Senator Page (Louisiana Senator-Cassandra Chick), Eagle River Cowboy (One Famous Eagle-Fast Prize Corona) and Virtuosi (Favorite Cartel-Tsunami 09) completed the finishing order.

FIESTY ICON

Longshot Fiesty Icon surprised in the $41,618 Alex Picov Memorial Championship, beating heavy favorite Country Boy 123 to the wire by a head in
the event held at Ajax Downs on Oct. 12.
Fiesty Icon proved to be a wise betting choice. The 8-year-old gelding broke well from the 8-post
and got stronger as the race progressed, seizing the lead by a nose as he went into the stretch. Jockey Tony Phillips urged the veteran gelding to a driving finish, completing the 440-yard trip in :21.745 for a 104 speed index, aided by a 22 mph tailwind.
Owner /trainer Richard Kennedy collected a $17,162 payday for the victory, which pushed Fiesty Icon’s total earnings to $278,143.
Fiesty Icon was making his 49th career start and logged his 20th overall victory. He now has four wins in stakes company, all at Ajax Downs, including the 2016 and 2019 running’s of the Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity. Fiesty Icon entered this race coming off a runner-up finish in the 2020 version of that event.
Picov Cattle Company bred Fiesty Icon and owns his dam, Fiesty Spirit, a winning mare who has produced 100% winners from two starters.
Country Boy 123 (Country Chicks Man-Very Dashin 123) finished second under Ed Walton for owner/trainer Ruth Barbour.
Spy For The Senate (Louisiana Senator-Corona Spy) was elevated to 3rd place after Countrys
Comin Bac got disqualified from 3rd to 4th. Milena Kiwecien owns Spy For The Senate, who is trained by Jason Pascoe and had Ismael Mosqueira in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man-Bac To Center), Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purley Un Social), Shes Sizzling (Sizzlin Cartel-Shenandoah Special), Jess A Deal (Dealagame-Jess Marcy)
and Tempting First Dash (Shining First Dash-A Tempting Chick).
