Starr Western Wear Stakes
FREEDOM FLASH
by Michael Cusortelli
Freedom Flash was a prompt 11-10 favorite in the $100,000, 870-yard Starr Western Wear Stakes for New Mexico-bred Quarter
Horses and Thoroughbreds at Sunland Park on Feb. 4.
Prepped by Todd Fincher for owners Pierre Amestoy Jr., Leslie Amestoy, and Roger K. Beasley, Freedom Flash defeated Dan The Flashman by 1-length in :45.288. Alfredo Sigala rode the homebred son of Champion First Moonflash.
Freedom Flash was coming off of a second- place finish, 6-lengths behind winner Big Dynasty, in the open 870-yard, $75,000 King Rick Rack Stakes-G3 at Zia Park on Dec. 11.
The gelding is out of Mi Camila TB, a winning Southern Halo mare and the dam of 100% winners from six starters. Freedom Flash is a full brother to Mi Moonflash, winner of the New Mexico Fillies & Mares Championship, Champagne Lane Stakes and New Mexico
