THIS PARTIES HOPPIN
by John Moorehouse
This Parties Hoppin keeps piling up the stakes wins at Arapahoe Park. The four-year-old gelding logged his third straight victory—all coming in stakes races at the Colorado track— taking the $18,250 Leo Beau Dash at Arapahoe Park on Aug. 7.
Jose Arion trains This Parties Hoppin, who finished the 400-yard race in :19.995, posting a 97 speed index while running against an 8 mph headwind.
An even-money favorite at post time, This Parties Hoppin broke out emerging from the 4-post but settled and made a driving finish for the wire. Rider Daniel Valles had the gelding in the lead by a head going into the stretch, and he widened the gap during the final yards to sport a 1/2-length margin as he hit the finish line.
Vences Racing owns This Parties Hoppin, whose win streak began with last October’s Mile High Derby at Arapahoe. Then the gelding returned on July 4 after a layoff of almost nine months to take the Dolls Prodigy Stakes. All told, This Parties Hoppin has
six wins in 20 lifetime starts, and a $76,457 career bankroll with the $10,950 payday from this race.
Jose Antonio Flores bed This Parties Hoppin out of Bsimjumpn, a lightly-raced 2008 mare who has produced three winners out of seven starters with earnings of $97,433.
Indeed (Wagon Tales-Dancing Jam) made a steady run for second under jockey Manuel Meza. The gelding is owned by Jose Castaneda and trained by Jose Chavez. Sizzlin Chick Corona (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Financial Leverage) placed third for owner Rancho Garambuyo. The Alexander Orozco trainee had Scott Bethke in the irons.
Im Jess Good (Jess Good Candy-Madresita), The Designer (Mr Piloto-Chanel Chic), Kooler Wagon (Desirio-Beaus Wagon), Unforgiven B (Jumpn-Mr Perrys Effort), and Cashsurfer (Corona Surfer-JN Coronancash) completed the finishing order.
NDQHRA Derby
PRANKSTER
by John Moorehouse
It’s no joke. Prankster notched his first stakes triumph in the 11th out of his career with his winning run in the $18,825 NDQHRA Derby on
July 30 at North Dakota Horse Park.
Prankster was almost as fast in the stakes final as
he was in the trials, covering the distance in :20.066 for a 102 speed index while running through a 10 mph crosswind. He broke on top from the inside starting gate, led by a head at first call, maintained that advantage entering the stretch, then pulled away late to win by 1/2-length.
Leon Glasser home-bred the three-year-old gelding, who has reeled off three straight victories after a winless rookie campaign. That win streak included his trial for the derby, a 400-yard trip completed in 20 seconds flat to top the qualifying ladder and set a New Track Record.
Mallory Norton trains Prankster, who secured a $9,413 payday for his connections that increased the gelding’s total earnings to $26,063. Ron Beverly Jr. had the riding assignment. Prankster was no stranger to stakes company; as a two-year-old, he qualified for both the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity and the MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity.
Glasser bred Prankster out of Little Love Affair, a 2007 mare owned by Karen Glasser. She scored multiple stakes victories during a nine-win, 13-race career.
Ima Freighttrain B (Freighttrain B-Marmalades Cartel) finished 2nd under David Pinon by nearly 4-lengths for Kari Buchholz and trainer Robert Johnson. Six Figure Diamonds (Six Figure Sixes-Dolla Daze) took third by a nose for owner/trainer Mark Allery. Giovany Estrada drew the riding assignment. The remaining order of finish was Shesa Royal Jess (Dashing Jess Perry-Tempered Reb), Drink Relentlessly (Hes Relentless-If You Saw Rivanne), Gold Medal Soldier (BV Travelin Soldier-Gold Medal Jano), Candy At Midnight (Jess Good Candy-Shake Em Diva), and Times Best Card (Docs Best Card-Dynasty Time).
NDQHRA Futurity
REDOINIT
by John Moorehouse
Redoinit claimed his second career stakes victory in the $20,865 NDQHRA Futurity, held July 31 at North Dakota Horse Park.
Redoinit is trained by Mallory Norton, who also
prepped the winning horse, Prankster, in this year’s version of the NDQHRA Derby. Redoinit looked sharp in this one, breaking well from the No. 5 gate and leading by a head as he reached the first call. The gelding continued to lead by a head entering the stretch, then held off Makin It Rayne to reach the finish line first by a neck.
The post-time favorite at 5-2 odds, Redoinit finished the futurity in :18.095, topping his effort in the trials and tallying a 93 speed index. Larren Delorme had the riding assignment. The $10,433 winner’s share of the purse increased the gelding’s total bankroll to $15,760.
Steve Leonard owns the two-year-old gelding, who now has been to the winner’s circle in three of his six starts. That includes June’s running of the Randy Wilson Memorial Futurity at Chippewa Downs. Redoinit also won his futurity trial, finishing the 350 yards in :18.190 to top the qualifying ladder.
Randy and Sharlene Reuer bred Redoinit out of Bigtime Folly, a 2012 mare.
Runner-up Makin It Rayne (Hes Relentless- Marmolly) is owned by Billy Buchholz. The Robert Johnson trainee had David Pinon in the irons. Mountains Are Blue (Gone To The Mountain-Easily A Gol) finished third for owner Rodney J. Smith and trainer Cole Wilson. Zack Ziegler was aboard.
The remaining order of finish had Bowtodabestcard (Docs Best Card-Bo Dash Back) in fourth, followed by Special Dipper (Six Figure Sixes-Denises Doll), Hidden Charms (Ima Ramblin On-Cartel Dakota), Cracklin Rosie (Ima Ramblin On-Ms Veronica), and Jennas Quick Jess (Dashing Jess Perry-Jennas Easy Cash).
