Bitterroot Derby
THE PRIZE FERARRI
by Danny Camp
The Prize Ferarri captured the first place prize in the $26,300 Bitterroot Derby at Pocatello Downs on July 30.
The Prize Ferarri came into the finals with the fastest qualifying time from the July 16 trials. He ran true to form in the finals, stepping away from the 7-post for the first call. Jockey Jesus Canales has ridden The Prize Ferarri in all of his twelve outs so he knew what the gelding needed. At the halfway point, they were 1 1/2-length in front. At the wire, they cruised to a 2-length victory. They completed the 400 yards in :19.870 to earn a 98 speed index.
Trained by Mark Hanson, the gelding earned
the $10,520 winner’s share, which boosts his total bankroll to $82,684 for owners RTM Stables, Robin & Kevin Dunn and Bryon Goody. His race record stands at eight wins out of twelve starts while winning six out of his last eight and his last three in a row.
Weetona Stanley bred The Prize Ferarri out of lightly raced Ferarri Fast Prize. She has produced 20 winners from 28 starters, including stakes winner Ferarri B. The Prize Ferarri is her second stakes win- ner and top earner.
Second fastest qualifier and trial winner Fortunes Wild Blood (Apollitical Blood-Cartels Fortune) ran second in the finals under Nakia Ramirez to bank second place money for owners Kelly and Kyle Cook and trainer Jay Pitcher.
Jr Hiway 93 (One Fabulous Eagle-Prissy B Panther) and jockey Gerardo Vera were third for owner/trainer Owen Udy.
RTM Glory Days (Coronas Fast Dash-RTM Say Your Prayers), Coronado Kiss (Coronado Cartel-Sixteen Kisses), Imported Corona (Class Jump-Suzi Ran), Heza Gator (Apollitical Blood-Sheza Gator), Im Renee (Im Alright Now-Tips Tie), One Corona Special (Coronas Fast Dash-Jesse Jayne) and Primal Instincts (Glorgino- Primal Scream) completed the order of finish.
