                 Terrace Hill Stakes
IRIS ROYAL JESS
by John Moorehouse
After finishing second in last year’s running of the Terrace Hill Stakes, Iris Royal Jess came back and won the latest incarnation, taking the $55,000 event held at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 26.
Coming back to the Terrace Hill as a 1-2 favorite at post time, Iris Royal Jess left little doubt in this one. The gelding broke well from the 5-post, open- ing a 1/2-length lead by the first call. Iris Royal Jess doubled his advantage to 1-length as he hit the stretch and he reached the wire leading by 1 1/2-lengths.
Trained by Alex Wessels, Iris Royal Jess covered the 400 yards in :20.091, posting an 86 speed index. Cristian Esqueda was in the irons.
A five-year-old gray gelding, Iris Royal Jess
got to the winner’s circle for the ninth time in 13 starts. This marked his third win in stakes company, with all three of those victories coming at Prairie Meadows. The other two are the 2018 Polk County Derby and the Cy-Hawk Stakes held this July.
B/B Wessels LLC owns Iris Royal Jess, collecting a $26,950 payday that pushed the gelding’s total earnings to the cusp of $200,000 at $195,123.
Warren Garrels bred Iris Royal Jess out of lightly raced Pure Royal Dash. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. Iris Royal Jess is her first stakes winner.
Storming Red Chickie (Red Storm Cat-Burn Down Chickie) finished second by a head for Kevin Heims. The Tony Jones trainee had Berkley Packer in the irons. The mare won the 2018 Terrace Hill Stakes.
Fast N Famous Jeans (One Famous Eagle-Fast Jeans) finished third under Ramiro Garcis for owner Thomas Scheckel and trainer Manuel Campos. The horse won the 2016 Jim Bader Futurity.
Real Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Real Royal Down), Mr Special Wagon (Lil Kool Wagon-Special Stepper) and Ja Go Forest Go (Gol-Ja Impetuously) completed the field.
Valley Junction Juvenile
SHE WALKS ON WATER
by Tracy Gantz
Though She Walks On Water didn’t follow her name in her only start on a sloppy track at Remington Park, she performed well in the $20,000 Valley Junction Juvenile at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 25, becoming a stakes winner for owner-breeder Randy McDonald.
Jorre Tores has ridden the filly in each of her five starts. She came out of the gate fifth in the 350-yard Juvenile and rallied strongly to win by a head. She Walks On Water stopped the timer in :18.042, post- ing an 80 speed index.
Stacy Charette-Hill trains She Walks On Water for McDonald. The filly broke her maiden at Remington, and this was her third start at Prairie Meadows.
McDonald bred She Walks On Water out of his homebred winning mare Miss Corona Quick. The mare has produced seven winners from nine starters, including stakes winner Mr James Quick and stakes- placed Eyem Unstopable.
Charette-Hill also trains second-place Lil Latin Lupe Lou (Hes Relentless-Commotion Motion). Jonathan Dominguez rode the filly for owners Gene and Lynn Schmidt.
Eugenio Navarrete Jr. piloted B Boujee (Tres Seis- Glory Rider) to third for owner Runningdownadream Partners and trainer Edward Hardy.
Wieburg (Ivory James-Hollie Jollie) finished
in fourth place, and Flying Jessie Girl (Winners Award-Jess Carolina) finished in fifth place. Hadley Girl (Lota PYC-Curl Girl) and DF Fabulous Pilot (One Fabulous Eagle-Ms Perrys Pilot) dead-
heated for sixth, but Hadley Girl was disqualified and placed seventh. McClusky Mugger (Valiant Hero-My Dynasty Chick) finished eighth, followed by Peves Silver Spur (Moonin The Eagle-Ima
Lazie Too) and Midnite Dynasty (FDD Dynasty- Midnight Cartel). Both A Fabulos Painting and FDD Princess were scratched.
Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3
EYESA TIMBER
by Michael Compton
In his young career, Eyesa Timber has made it clear that he has the raw materials to become a top-class racehorse for owner/breeder/trainer Wesley Oulton.
As the fastest qualifier on Sept. 11, and the odds-on favorite in the $44,956 Alberta Bred Futurity, Eyesa Timber rolled to an impressive victory in the 350- yard event at Century Mile on Sept. 25.
With jockey Jose Rocha aboard, Eyesa Timber dueled for the early lead and drove clear in the stretch. By the time he crossed the finish, the brown gelding had a 1/2-length on runner-up Halos Sign and jockey J.B. Botello. Bigtime Knockout and Martin Ortiz showed the way early, but faded to third when he was outkicked in the late stages.
In capturing the initial stakes race of his career, Eyesa Timber stopped the timer in a lively :17.704 and earned a 105 speed index. The win improved his record to 6-3(1)-2-0 and he now has earnings of more than $35,000.
A finalist in the MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park in July, Eyesa Timber is out of winner Eyesa Perry. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters.
Halos Sign (Wagon Tales-Hawks Halo), a winner of her trial heat, finished a game second for owner Donalda Cochrane and trainer Allen Goodsell. It was the second stakes-placing for the filly.
Bigtime Knockout (Teller Im Bigtime-Royal Knockout) held third for owner/breeder Glenn Wills and trainer Buckey Stockwell.
Flying Feelin (Special Fly Bye-Feelin the Fever), Royale Runaway (First Timber-Sparkling Hy), Bright Foo Fighter (Gone to the Mountain-DJ Bright Sweetheart), Jess Be First (First Timber-Ima Jess a Streaker), Jagnestimber (First Timber-Golded Gold), and Bound too Be First (First Timber-Snowbound Star Lady) completed the order of finish. Spicy Chile was scratched.
