New Mexico State Fair Juvenile
BLAZINBERRYBERRYFAST
by Michael Compton
Blazinberryberryfast proved fast enough to break her maiden in a stakes race, taking down top prize in the $50,000 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile
at The Downs at Albuquerque on Sept. 20. Ridden by Jesse Levario for trainer Ivan Tafoya, Blazinberryberryfast raced in second position early,
chasing early leader Surfz Up away from the gate in the 400-yard dash. The pair dueled through the lane with Blazinberryberryfast forging past her rival late to score by a neck. Vicente Solis Grajeda’s bay filly stopped the timer in :19.795 and earned an 87 speed index.
Making just her second career start in the New Mexico State Fair Juvenile, Blazinberryberryfast picked up the winner’s check of $30,000. She finished sixth in her Aug. 28 trial heat for the New Mexico State Fair Futurity in her only prior outing.
Hubaldo Solis bred Blazinberryberryfast out of lightly raced Strawberryberryfast. She has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. Blazinberryberryfast is her first stakes winner.
Surfz Up (Corona Surfer-Mitey Moon) was a game runner-up. Ridden by Adrian Ramos for owner Guadalupe Cortez and trainer Sergio Ibarra, Surfz Up showed the way early and battled bravely to the finish. The filly has now placed in 2-of-4 starts.
Race favorite CC Moonflash (First Moonflash-CC Kachina Eagle) and jockey James Flores improved position late to finish third for own- ers W.L. & Dee Mooring and trainer Larry Chavez.
Sweet Zulu (Zulu Dragon-Sweet Sweet Jane) was fourth, in a deadheat for fifth were A Flash
Of Corona (First Moonflash-Zoobie Cartel) and Sonny Surfer (Corona Surfer-Domeinitchy TB), Shakemyseis (Tres Seis Nueve-Dye Version), was sixth and Mr Big (Big Daddy Cartel-Sixy Streak), Jess Keep A Secret (Jess A Chicks-Secret Eagles) and Waitanotherdayamanda (One Handsome Man-First Prize Amanda) completed the order of finish.
Indiana Grand Classic
VALIANTINECANDYROCKS
by Michael Compton
After starting her 2020 campaign a perfect two- for-two, a stumble at the start as the favorite in the Bob Woodard Memorial Stakes at Indiana Grand on Aug. 20 cost Valiantinecandyrocks any chance at a victory. She made up for that in her subsequent start, scoring the first stakes win of her career in the $86,460 Indiana Grand Classic on Sept. 14
Owned and bred by Lance and
Tammy Finlinson, the curiously-named Valiantinecandyrocks raced in 6th position early under jockey Victor Olivo. She picked off rivals one by one until she hit the front in the late stages, hold- ing off race favorite Beach Mercedes to score by a neck. She stopped the timer in :19.929, earning a 92 speed index in the 400-yard test.
Trained by Lilia Gonzalez, Valiantinecandyrocks is now a winner in six of 13 starts; the $47,553 winner’s share of the purse increased her bankroll to $105,991.
The Finlinson’s bred Valiantinecandyrocks out of winner Jesses Candy. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters. Valiantinecandyrocks is her second stakes winner.
Runner-up Beach Mercedes (Escondido Beach- Jess Alive Bully) put in a strong bid and just missed under Samuel Mendez for owner Sheri Miller and trainer Randy Smith. Southern Belle BP (First Down Dash-BP Shes Southern) and jockey German Rodriguez finished third for owner Bill Price and trainer Randy Haffner. Shes Relentlesswagon
(Hes Relentless-Sassie Wagon), Cause for Corona (Cartels Feature-Valorie Cause), Apollitical B Beast (Apollitical Blood-Chalala), My Pillow (Favorite Cartel-Iba Quick Chick), Tres My Heart (Heart
Of The Cartel-Famous Mariah), Wagon Dash (Tempting Dash-Wagon Cash) and Air Born Rio (Desirio-Air Born Babe) completed the order of fin- ish. Shes A Real Patriot was scratched.
Leader of the Class Sale Futurity
HEZA FAST KISSER
by Danny Camp
Heza Fast Kisser was also a fast runner when he notched his second career win. It came in the run- ning of the $80,520 Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity
at Indiana Grand Race Course on Sept. 15.
Under rider Antonio Rodriguez, the colt stum-
bled away from the 8-post for the ninth call from the gates. Heza Fast Kisser quickly regained his stride to secure the lead by a 1/2-length at the halfway point. The pair crossed the wire a neck in front, completing the 350 yards in :18.002, which was good for an 87 speed index.
Heza Fast Kisser brought home the $44,286 winner’s share of the purse for owner Abraham Favela and trainer Ricardo Martinez, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $59,709. He now has a race record of 6-2(1)-1-1.
Mark Michel bred Heza Fast Kisser out of unraced First Smart Stride. She has produced 100% money earners from 11 starters. Heza Fast Kisser is her third stakes winner.
Beach Blast (Escondido Beach-Jess Alive Bully) and jockey Samuel Mendez banked second place money
for owners Keith Bode and Brock Hutchinson & trainer Randy Smith. The gelding was a finalist in the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity in August.
Beach Stone (Brimmstone-Coco Beach) finished second under Juan Marquez. Paul Martin trained the gelding for owners Stacy and Tyler Martin. Beach Stone was a finalist in the Gordon Mobley Futurity earlier this year.
HF Hells Bells (Valiant Hero-Firebawl), Too Pretty To Catch (Too Tough To Catch-Brimms Fairy Tale), Streakin James (Ivory James-Rumba Casino), Relentless Princess (Hes Relentless-First A Princess), Stone Lake (Escondido Beach-Silly Chix), Coronado Creek (Coronado Cartel-Tates Creek) and Beach Shakin (Escondido Beach-Botticelli Shake) completed the order of finish.
