TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby
EASY BLINKERS

Second fastest qualifier, Easy Blinkers stepped up his game in the finals of the $92,140 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby at Retama Park on Aug. 29.
The gelding stepped away from the 4-post in fifth and grabbed the lead mid-way through the 400 yards. Ridden by Jose Martinez, Easy Blinkers drove to the wire and crossed the finish line a head in front, stopping the clock in :20.421 and posting an 82 speed index.
Easy Blinkers brought home the $36,856 win- ner’s share of the purse for owner/breeder Pamela Stone and trainer Angel Sanchez, which boosted his lifetime earnings to $99,251.
The gelding finished second in his Aug. 15 trial and won last year’s TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-G3.
Stone bred Easy Blinkers out of lightly raced Wide Open Effort. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters. Easy Blinkers is her first stakes winner.
Hit Or Miss Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-One Famous Ermana) finished in second under Victor Urieta Jr. for owner Ernesto Jose Guzman and trainer Alonso Neri. The filly was second in the Old South Derby earlier this year.
Portfolioh (Coronas Fast Dash-Jess A Lil Bit More) banked the third place check for own-
ers Sergio Holguin, Cliften Nielson and Felix Rodriguez. The Alonso Neri trainee had Victor Urieta Sr. aboard. The gelding won his Aug. 15 trial.
Doz Coronas (The Louisiana Cartel-Zoomin To Firstplace), Monaco (Dominyun-Bodacious Dream), Como Cartel (Coronado Cartel- Commotion Motion), T K Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Miss Timinator), Your Famous Hips (My Famous Romance-Paint Your Hips), Canelo Alvarez (Hes Relentless-Cindys First Cd) and Em Jess Ronas Cash (Jess Lips-Ill Paint The Town) com- pleted the order of finish.
San Marcos Stakes
SILVER CITY LIGHTS

Silver City Lights made it back-to-back stakes wins with a victory over five rivals in the $40,000 San Marcos Stakes at Retama Park on Aug. 29.
With Luis Vivanco aboard, Silver City Lights grabbed the lead away from the gate. He surren- dered it briefly to race favorite Favorite Kool Cartel in the 870-yard marathon as the pair opened a clear advantage over their rivals. The two dueled through the lane, with Silver City Lights driving to the finish and prevailing by a neck at the wire. It was another 7-lengths back to third-place finisher One Mighty Eagle.
Trained by Cindi Keeton, Silver City Lights clocked the distance in :47.259, earning an 80 speed index. With the win, Silver City Lights improved his record to 16-4(2)-2-3, and the $24,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $79,807 for owners Jack Powers and Jerry Stanfield. It was the second straight stakes win for the 4-year-old gray gelding, who annexed the Benny Pennington Memorial at Retama in his previous start.
BRS Stables Inc. bred Silver City Lights out of lightly raced Backwoods Bar B. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters. Silver City Lights is her first stakes winner.
Runner-up Favorite Kool Kat (Favorite Cartel- Rustys Kool Lady) just missed after a brave battle under Ricardo Garza-Cruz. Enrique Ibarra owns the 4-year-old gelding who is trained by Rolando Almanza. One Mighty Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Kates Dynasty) and jockey Noe Villatoro finished third for owner Shirley Richardson and trainer James Padgett II.
Hotseat (FDD Dynasty-Trio Gal TB), Frisco Jess (Valiant Hero-Feature My Jess), and Jess a Hillbilly Bone (Rock Solid Jess-Imaginiff) com- pleted the order of finish. Desire Astoli and Stolis Pro were scratched.
Live Oak Stakes
SS CLASSYJESS

SS Classyjess showed just how classy she is by winning the $40,000 Live Oak Stakes at Retama Park on Aug. 29.
Owned by Edgar Rosales, the filly broke from the 4-post in second under Juan Garcia and quickly secured the lead. Half way through the 350 yards, they held a 1/2-length lead and continued to lengthen that lead as they ran toward the finish line. SS Classyjess crossed the wire 1 1/2-length in front. They stopped the clock in :17.818, which
was good for a 91 speed index. Trained by Jose Carrizales, the filly earned the $24,400 winner’s share of the purse, boosting her total lifetime earnings to $126,013. She now has a race record of 25-9(3)-7(3)-4(3), including victories in the Swift Stakes and Miss Retama Stakes earlier this year. She has won her last five starts.
Ronnie Stewart and Double S Farm bred SS Classyjess out of lightly raced High Class Broad, who has produced 100% money earners from five starters. SS Classyjess is her first stakes winner.
Alluringeyeopener (Specially Alluring-Sixmoon Bully) and Victor Urieta Jr. ran a gritty race to get second for owner Salvador Velez and trainer Alonso Neri. The gelding won the 2017 Gillespie County Fair Futurity.
Diamond G Bee (Majestic Cartel-Hermes For Me B) showed a late effort to bank the third place check for owner Byron Gardner. The J. B. Padgett trainee had Bryan Candanosa aboard. The filly finished second in last year’s TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-G3.
Relevant Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Oh So Sixy) finished in fourth and was followed by This Is A Deal Too (Dealagame-Lady Lilia), Won Tres Seis (Volcom- Won To Watch) and All About The Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-All About Tonight). Jess JJ Watt AW was scratched.
