QROOI Distance Series #2
COUNTRY BOY 123
by John Moorehouse
Favorites don’t come any bigger than Country Boy 123, who went off at overwhelming 1-20 odds in the $16,492 QROOI Distance Series #2 on Sept. 2 at
Ajax Downs.
The veteran gelding racked up his 13th career
win in stakes company and tallied his fourth straight victory in 2020, easily going wire-to-wire to win the 400-yard race by 1-length.
The gelding left little doubt in this one, break- ing on top from the inside starting gate, leading
by 1-length by the first call and maintaining that separation at each remaining juncture. Ed Walton rode Country Boy 123 to victory, finishing the 400 yards in :19.940 for a 98 speed index.
Ruth Barbour owns and trains Country Boy 123, who has been to the winner’s circle 26 times in 40 lifetime starts—posting victories at eight different distances during his career. The $7,761 winner’s share of this purse improved his total earnings over the $400,000 milestone to $404,239. Eleven of his stakes wins have been registered at Ajax Downs.
Carolyn Bay bred Country Boy 123 and his dam, Very Dashin 123, a 2004 mare currently owned
by Copper Spring Ranch. A former stakes winner herself, Very Dashin 123 has produced four starters among nine foals, but Country Boy 123 is hands- down the most accomplished in the brood.
Spy For The Senate (Louisiana Senator-Corona Spy), another multiple stakes winner, finished second for owner Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe. Helan Vanek drew the riding assignment.
Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard- Aaneta), another horse owned and trained by Barbour, finished third by a neck. Regan Knowles was in the irons.
Jess A Deal (Dealagame-Jess Marcy) and Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purley Un Social) completed the finishing order.

BODACIOUS DENALI
by Danny Camp
Bodacious Denali dashed to her third victory in four starts and tallied her initial stakes score with a game win in the $65,745 Rock Springs Wyoming
Bred Futurity at Sweetwater Downs on Sept. 5. The Trent Woods colorbearer had crossed the
finish first in all three starts prior to the Futurity to begin her career, all in wire-to-wire fashion, but was DQ’d from 1st to 5th in her career debut in July.
With jockey Uriel Dominguez riding her for the first time, Bodacious Denali won this futurity in
the same fashion—leading from start to finish. She assumed command at the break of the 350-yard test and battled the length of the lane with fastest qualifier Bigg Brown, piloted by Tyson Lusk, who had partnered Bodacious Denali in her first three races. Bodacious Denali proved up to the task, however, defeating Dan and Kim Lapierre’s Bigg Brown (Choctaw River- Purrfect Eve) by a neck in a blanket finish.
Bodacious Denali stopped the timer in :15.570 and earned a 95 speed index in winning the initial stakes race of her career in wire-to-wire style. The $23,011 winner’s share of the purse lifted Bodacious Denali’s earnings to $27,131. Trained by Jordan Hadley, who also saddled the runner-up, Bodacious Denali was bred by Brooke Black out of lightly raced Denali Deception. Bodacious Denali is her first foal.
Eyesa Special Digger (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Shameless Angel), owned by Broken Bones Cattle Company and trained by Jesse Villegas, finished in third under jockey Oscar Cervantes.
Makn Diamonds (Maknmoves-Diamonds Tiny Effort), Separate Creeks (Conn Creek-Separate Moves), VVR Velvet Princess (Coronas Velvet-A Lil Known Tribe), Kcross Packinasixgun (Pistol Packin Perry-Caseys Six Pack), Scarlett Belle (Tac It Like a Man-Battle Scar), Last Night (Harems Last Dash- Line in the Night) and ALS Dynasty (Jr Dynasty-BF Pieces of April) followed.

PATTYS SAINT
by Michael Cusortelli
Sent to post at odds of 22-1 in a field of nine 2-year-olds, Robert L. Harrison’s Pattys Saint sprinted to a 1/2-length victory in the Sept. 12, $42,500 WHR Futurity at Sweetwater Downs. Pattys Saint broke on the lead and was never headed as she covered 350 yards in :17.757 while earning a 90 speed index under jockey Jose Antonio Figueroa. Heath Hillman prepped the homebred brown daughter of the Feature Mr Jess stallion Jess Got Easier.
Raced in Wyoming and Idaho, Pattys Saint has won three of six starts, and the $17,000 winner’s share of the purse from her second career stakes victory pushed her bankroll to $28,955. The filly’s resume includes a 1/2-length win as the fastest qualifier in the Aug. 9, $19,500 Oneida County Fair Futurity at Malad, Idaho. Pattys Saint began her career in Idaho, running second in a 300-yard Crush The Curve Futurity trial at Pocatello Downs on June 3, then finishing fifth in the June 24, $25,500 final
Pattys Saint was bred in Idaho and is out of lighty raced SP Saint Patty.
Well Kiss My Wagon (Wagons West-Dicey Kiss) was 2nd and banked $8,500 for owner Marvin Falls Down Jr. Never Marin rode the black Utah-bred
filly for trainer Jordan Hadley. Keith W. Nellesen’s Executive Temptation (Tempting Dash-Executive Looks) finished 3rd, a nose behind the runner-up. Jesus Valenzuela rode the bay filly and 1/2-sis-
ter to Champion KVN Corona for trainer Riley Moosman. Volcums Hot Candy (Volcom-Candy Cartels Cat), the fastest qualifier and 9-5 favorite, ran 4th and Cady Shack Creek (Maknmoves-Echo Creek Canyon) was 5th. In a deadheat for 6th were Wildroses101 (JA Jess Perfect-Weeds In My Roses) & Secret Dorothy (Jr Dynasty Mountain-Donnasecret), followed by Zoomin Moonflash (First Moonflash- Zoomin Follies) and Hadleys Glock (Glock-Hadleys Choice). Delila Rose was scatched.
