ood Knight Country helped his trainer,
Tammy Johnson, post an impressive double at Will Rogers Downs on Oct. 2. The young gelding triumphed in the $57,035 John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge, right after another of Johnson’s charges, Valentino Pete, won the Adequan Will Rogers Derby Challenge.
Good Knight Country broke from the 5-post near the back of the field, worked his way up to fourth at the first call and third going into the stretch. His positive surge continued during the final yards, overtaking two foes and hitting the wire first by a neck. Agustin Silva piloted Good Knight Country, who finished the race in :17.830 for a 92 speed index.
It was the stakes debut and first career win for Good Knight Country, producing a $26,236 payday that boosted his lifetime earnings to $30,934. Good Knight Country also qualified for the John Deere Juvenile Championship at Horseshoe Indianapolis booked for Oct. 22 as part of Bank of America Challenge Championships night.
Johnson co-owns Good Knight Country with Sarah Huskey, who home-bred the gelding out of Country Mans Chick, an unraced 2009 mare who has produced four winners from six starters.
Meet Me Out Back (Dominyun-Dianetogetcha) secured runner-up honors for Jose Meraz. The Jose Villafranco trainee had Jesus Salazar in the irons.
Apolitical War (Apollitical Blood-Taberah) made a game run for third under jockey Cody Smith. Double O Acres home-bred the gelding, who is trained by Michelle Hurdle.
Phunatic (Cold Granite Stone-Phun Size), Ms Kiddy (Kiddy Up-Queen Is Back), O Seeyalater (First Timber- Howdoyado), No Doubtt (BV Travelin Soldier-Nolet), BV Walkaway Joe (BV Travelin Soldier-Azoomin Streak), and TBT Meter Reader (Volcom-Dont Text That) followed. First Class Train scratched.

hockinglyfamous scored his fifth stakes victory
in the $34,689 AQHA Will Rogers Downs Distance Challenge-G3 on Oct. 2.
The even-money favorite, Shockinglyfamous broke on top from the 3-post and led by a 1/2 length at the first call. His advantage ballooned to 2-lengths as he entered the stretch, and Shockinglyfamous maintained to win by that same margin. Cody Wainscott had the riding assignment for an 870-yard trip completed in :45.470 for a 101 speed index. He earned an $18,030 payday that increased his lifetime earnings to $276,891.
Shockinglyfamous has three victories this season and has hit the board in all seven of his races, six of them being stakes. Of his nine career victories in 32 starts, five have come in stakes races, including this year’s running of the Jesse Yoakum 870 Memorial at Sam Houston. Shockinglyfamous also qualified for the AQHA Distance Challenge Championships, booked for Oct. 22 at Horseshoe Indianapolis as part of the Bank of America Challenge Championships card.
Kasey Willis trains Shockinglyfamous and co-owns the six-year-old with Stone Chase Stables LLC. His current owners purchased him for $95,000 at last year’s Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. Shockinglyfamous has already surpassed that sum in winnings this year, with $97,187 and counting.
Clarence Scharbauer III bred Shockinglyfamous out of Shocktime TB, a 2009 winning mare.
Hi High Hopes (Favorite Cartel- Brighterthanthesun) finished second by 3-lengths. The colt is owned by Cole Clinger, trained by Bradley Bolen, and had L. Salvador Martinez aboard.
Seb Ember (Walk Thru Fire-Wisestar TB) placed third by 2 1/2-lengths for Sam Brookover. The Charlton Hunt trainee had Stormy Smith aboard.
Dance The Dust Off (Coronas Blackdiamond- Magic Yard TB) and Jess Up V (Jess Lips-Act Up) completed the field.

Valentino Pete prevailed and won the first stakes race of his career in the $48,807 Adequan Will Rogers Downs Derby Challenge held on Oct. 2.
A 16-1 underdog at post time, Valentino Pete beat the oddsmakers. The gelding broke on top from the 2-post and stayed in the lead for the entirety of the 400 yards, hitting the wire first by a neck. Jorge Torres was in the irons, riding Valentino Pete across the finish
line in a :19.754 trip that earned him a 98 speed index. Trainer Tammy Johnson also prepped the winner in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge on this same card.
Valentino Pete banked the $22,451 winner’s share of the purse, improving his total earnings
to $33,517. It also qualified the gelding for the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G2, a race with an estimated $125,000 payday happening Oct. 22 as part of the Bank of America Challenge Championship card at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Owners Robert and Stacey Martin home-bred Valentino Pete out of the 2009 winning mare, Mystical Eye. She has produced three winners from six starters, with two stakes winners including multiple graded stakes placed Uncle Eds Idea, who won the 2019 Black Gold 440 Championship Futurity.
Cristian Leonardo Alcala owns and trains runner-up Lockedinthezone (Apollitical Jess-Big Bizooms). Jesus Salzar had the riding assignment.
Docs Dusty Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Docs Dusty Dale) finished third for Dusty Rose Ranch LLC. The Stacy Capps trainee had Rolando Raudales aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Political Fire (Apollitical Jess-Lady Perry On Fire), Relentless I Am (Hes Relentless-Taberah), Jesst For Speed (Apollitical Jess-Shaded In Speed), Awesome View (Hes Relentless- Ivory Key), Viva Le Zoom (Zoomin For Bux-Viva Arriba), Freighttrain King (Freighttrain B-Sheza Miracle Chico), and Billions (Power Jam-Ynot Bar).
