VF POLITICS N CHICKS
by Michael Cusortelli
VF Politics N Chicks, a 4-year-old son of 2010 World Champion Apollitcal Jess, led at every call en route to a 1/2-length victory in the $20,000 Prairie Dash Stakes at Prairie Meadows on July 3.
Prepped by Jason Olmstead for owner Richard L. Tobin and racing against a reported 10-mph head wind, VF Politics N Chicks covered 300 yards in :15.407. Bonifacio Quiroz rode the sorrel gelding, who earned $11,800 from his first career stakes win.
VF Politics N Chicks has won five of 20 starts and has earned $78,246 while racing in four states, including Oklahoma and New Mexico. The gelding’s resume includes a second-place finish, 1/2-length behind winner Southard Queen, in last year’s 400- yard $93,225 Iowa Double Gold Derby at Prairie Meadows. He also ran third in that season’s $48,775 Canterbury Park Derby.
VF Politics N Chicks was bred at Danny Ray’s Victory Farms near Ada, Oklahoma. The gelding is out of Dashin Chick, a 15-year-old daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Dashin Bye who won the 2009 Colors of the Wind Handicap at Sam Houston Race Park. His second dam, the winning Sixarun mare Six Chicks Dash, ran second in the 1994 TQHA Breeders’ Futurity-RG1 at Sam Houston.
Runner-up Chicks With Coronas (Apollitical Blood-Cache Corona) banked $3,800 for owners Sharon Hafliger and R.J. Ziegler. Ramiro Garcia rode the 4-year-old filly for trainer Casey Black. Dickey Bob (Apollitical Jess-Paint Or More) ran third, 3/4-length behind VF Politics N Chicks, while earning $2,200 for owner Lunderborg LLC. Edwin Escobedo rode the homebred 6-year-old gelding for trainer Jason Olmstead. Followed by Ferrari James (Ivory James- Ferarri Fast Prize), Striking Perfection (High Rate Of Return-Striking Form), and Oh So Valiant (Mighty
B Valiant-Our Wranglin Gal). Apollitical J Julia, HR Storm On In & Iris Royal Jess scratched.
Bradford Stakes
WRS VALENTINO
by Michael Compton
Indiana’s top older horses clashed in a competitive renewal of the $59,720 Bradford Stakes at Indiana Grand on July 6, and at the conclusion of 400 yards,
it was race favorite and multiple stakes winner WRS Valentino who prevailed narrowly to register his third black type score.
Ridden by Samuel Mendez, WRS Valentino hopped slightly after the start but found himself in contention throughout. In a tightly contested battle through the lane, the bay gelding forged past early leader WRS Apolliticalivory to poke his head in front, and he held at bay a late charge from the classy Country Boy 123 to win by a nose at the wire. The gelded son of Mighty B Valiant stopped the timer in a brisk :19.727, which earned a 99 speed index.
In winning his third straight race and 8th overall, WRS Valentino increased his bankroll
to $338,020 for owner/breeder Williams Racing Stables Inc. of Kentucky and trainer Randy Smith. Bred in Kentucky out of the Teller Cartel mare WRS Kissandteller, WRS Valentino is now a perfect 2-for-2 on the season.
Runner-up Country Boy 123 (Country Chicks Man-Very Dashin 123) just missed under Luiz Martinez. The gelding is campaigned by Ruth Barbour, and Anthony Cunningham conditions the multiple stakes winner.
WRS Apolliticalivory (Apollitical Blood-Sassy Follies) finished third under German Rodriguez for the same connections as the winner.
Valiantinecandyrocks (Valiant Hero-Jesses Candy), Jess Z Bob (Jess Zoomin-Billie Bob-TB), Flyweight Carver (Wave Carver-Flaming Chivas), Vegas Corona (Corona Cartel-Jess Like Vegas), The Artful Dodger (High Rate of Return-Shanachee), Justafamilytradition (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess an Illusion) and Merciless Fire (Hes Relentless-Walk Thru My Soul) completed the order of finish.

RELENTLESS COURAGE
by John Moorehouse
Relentless Courage made a sharp trip into black type, winning the $71,362 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park on July 6.
Jason Olmstead trains Relentless Courage, who
broke in sixth and held on to the lead thereafter to finish the 350-yard in :17.762, posting a 95 speed index. Luis Valenzuela did the riding. The gelding’s connections banked a $32,113 payday that improved his total earnings to $40,573.
After winning his trial and posting the second- quickest qualifying time, Relentless Courage had no equal in the stakes final. The gelding broke from the inside starting gate and opened up a 1/2-length advantage by the time he reached the stretch, hold- ing off longshot SW The Redeemer to hit the wire first by a neck.
Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann own Relentless Courage, who has tallied two wins in three career outs. The two-year-old gelding was one of seven progeny of Hes Relentless in the field, which was restricted to two year olds whose sires were offered in the 2018 MQHRA Stallion Service Auction.
Harold Jeanotte bred Relentless Courage out of Newport Lily, a lightly-raced 2005 mare.
SW The Redeemer (Hes Relentless-Rockin Miss Kitty) was 2nd for owner Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe. Stormy Smith was in the irons. Relentless Babe (Hes Relentless-Mai Corona), the top qualifier and post-time favorite, finished third for owner Tom Maher and traier Jason Olmstead. Edwin Escobedo drew the riding assignment. The remaining order of finish was Chloes Magic (Hes Relentless-BBC PYC Luckycharm), Hes Resilient (Hes Relentless-No Excuses), Relentless Dream (Hes Relentless-Valiant Dreams), Prankster (Moonin The Eagle-Little Love Affair), Seoul Shyne (Hes Relentless-Roon), The Minnesota Moon (Moonin The Eagle-Etta Betta Zoom) and Kamikazeee (One Sweet Jess-Illthinkaboutit).
