Selma Stakes
SHEZA FREIGHTTRAIN T
by Danny Camp
The girls took center stage at Sam Houston Race Park in the running of the $50,000 Selma Stakes. Sheza Freighttrain T broke with the leaders and in a few strides, she had command of the field. She showed grit and determination to score the victory under Jockey Everardo Rodriguez. That effort helped them cross the line a neck in front. Trained by Eric Long, she stopped the timer in :17.455 to earn a 104 speed index.
The daughter of Freighttrain B also earned
the first place check worth $30,000 for owner Patrick Richardson, which ups her total bankroll to $383,259. Her race record stands at seven wins out of 12 races. She has won her last three out of four races that were all stakes, and she has found her groove.
Rusty Trahan bred Sheza Freighttrain T out of unraced Cloning Around. Sheza Freighttrain T is her first winner from two starters.
SS Classyjess (Rock Solid Jess-High Class Broad) coasted to a second place finish under Juan Garcia for owner Edgar Rosales and trainer Jose Carrizales. The mare won the Miss Sam Houston Stakes in June as well as last year’s Sam’s Town Stakes, Yellow Rose Of Texas Stakes, Nevill Stakes, Live Oak Stakes, Swift Stakes and Miss Retama Stakes.
Fancy Pants Heidi (Firstmoonflash-Jessadoreme) fought the good fight to pocket third place money. She is owned by Craig Lauger and trained by Fidencio Maldonado. Alejandro Zuniga was han- dling the reins.
All About The Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-All
About Tonight) was fourth, and Separate Rain (Inseperable-Arbeka Raincloud), Miss Julie Five Bar (Five Bar Cartel-Miss Julie B), Apollitical Snow (Apollitical Jess-This Snow Is Cold) and Nanyehi (Tempting Dash-Zoomin To The Ocean) com- pleted the order of finish. Class With Flash and HH Gailforce were scratched.
Tower Of The Americas Stakes
STONE COLD LEADER
by Michael Cusortelli
Patrick Richardson’s Stone Cold Leader domi- nated his competition in the 550-yard $50,000 Tower of the Americas Stakes at Sam Houston Race
Park on July 2.
Ridden by Bryan Candanosa for trainer Eric
Long and sent to post as the 2-5 favorite, Stone Cold Leader defeated Ten Sent by a clear 4-lengths in :27.088. The 6-year-old Brookstone Bay gelding earned a 110 speed index and the $30,000 winner’s share of the $50,000 purse.
Stone Cold Leader was bred in Indiana by Mark Michel. At Sam Houston Race Park earlier this season, the gelding ran third, a half of a length behind winner Black Cazador, in the 440-yard Sam Houston Classic-G2.
“We knew that he had a tough close on him,” said Long. “He ran well in the Sam Houston Classic, it was just a little short. We looked forward to run- ning him at 550.”
Raced in five states, Stone Cold Leader has won 15 of 31 outs and has banked $593,293. The gelding has won eight stakes, including the 2019 Miss Polly Classic Stakes-G3 at Delta Downs. His resume also includes a second-place finish in the 2018 Dash For Cash Derby-G3 at Lone Star Park, and a third-place run in the 2019 Refrigerator Stakes-G1 at Lone Star.
Jessica Remington’s Ten Sent (Country Chicks Man-Pink Cartel) was second under Cordarelton Benn for trainer Ty Remington.
Twelve Percent (High Rate Of Return-Tricks On The Side) finished third, 5 1/4-lengths behind Stone Cold Leader, for owner Gabriel B. Burke. Jose Vega rode the stallion for trainer Frankie Martinez.
Followed by Ghost Bear (Phantom Menace-Loose Play), The Kings Horse (Class King-Fleeta Dif), Jess Paint Me Quick (PYC Paint Your Wagon-My Girl Jessie), and BV Last Kiss (Jess Lips-BV Valentine Wagon). DM La Jolla Cartel scratched.
BOA POD Chal. Championship
FDD SWINGIN DYNASTY
by Danny Camp
FDD Swingin Dynasty has won her last three out of four; her latest in the $46,900 Bank of America Pocatello Downs Championship Challenge on July 9.
The filly stepped away on top from the 4-post with only five other starters in the gate. Even though there were only six competitors in the race, it was a tough one. The top three finishers all ran over a 100 speed index and the other three weren’t far behind. FDD Swingin Dynasty led throughout, but not by much. Jockey Oscar Cervantes had to show a lot
of hustle and encouragement to keep his mount focused. That helped them trip the timer at :21.393 to earn a 110 speed index.
The daughter of FDD Dynasty also earned
the first place check worth $23,450, which ups her lifetime earnings to $63,843, her race record stands at six wins out of twelve starts. Her team includes owner Darian Burt and trainer Scott Warr.
Jerry Windham bred FDD Swingin Dynasty out of winner Jess A Swingin, who was second in the TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG2. The mare has produced two winners from three starters, including stakes placed Sunkissed Jess.
Sables Dashin (FDD Dynasty-Painted Sable) ran a gritty race to bank second place money for owners Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple and RTM Stables LLC. The Mark Hanson trainee had Nakia Ramirez handling the reins. The gelding won the 2019 John Deere Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge.
JT Easy Bug (Jess Got Easier-Miss Perry Bug) finished in third place under Dallas Erickson for owners Jill and Glen Jamison, who also trains the gelding. JT Easy Bug won the 2018 Oneida County Fair Derby.
Fantastic Minion (Fantastic Corona Jr-Gigarod) Thrill Of The Cartel (Favorite Cartel-License To Thrill) Awesomer (Volcom-Jado Dashin) completed the order of finish. Dr Tool was scratched.
