Cherokee Nation Stakes
NASH RIDGE
by John Moorehouse
Nash Ridge came away from the stacked July 24 card at Fair Meadows with his first-ever stakes victory, hitting the wire by a neck in the $16,850
Cherokee Nation Stakes.
Breaking from the No. 8 gate, Nash Ridge drifted
in but maintained plenty of speed underneath jockey Cody Smith. The gelding was running a close second at the first call and going into the stretch, then over- took Foose Lodge to reach the finish line first.
Stacey Capps trains Nash Ridge, who finished the 350 yards in :17.864 for a 91 speed index while running into a 6 mph headwind. The gelding’s bank- roll surpassed the six-figure barrier, now totaling $100,313 with the addition of this $10,284 prize.
Randy J. Davis home-bred the two-year-old geld- ing, who notched his second straight win in his fifth career start. Nash Ridge broke his maiden by winning his trial for the Speedhorse Futurity, but failed to
run fast enough to make the field for that event.
Prior to that, Nash Ridge had finished fourth in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG1.
Davis also owns Made To Dash, the dam of Nash Ridge. The stakes-placed mare made 14 outs as a competitor, logging three victories.
Foose Lodge (Foose-Classic Sassy Chic) finished second for owner Modesto Reyes and trainer Julio Corral. Jhaciel Soto did the riding. Pevs Jukebox (FDD Dynasty-Ima Lazie Too) placed third for owner Regina Laymon and trainer Kenny Laymon. Justine Klaiber was in the irons.
One Fabulous Seis (One Fabulous Eagle-Sissy Seis), BP Fancydownsouth (Im a Fancy PYC-BP Down South), JF Storm Wagon (Kool Wagon- Stormy Celebration), Pevs Charley (One Fabulous Eagle-Miss Okey Dokey Zevi), Eye Cuervo (Eyesa Cashing Teller-ZZ Okey) and BH Five (Valiant Hero-Cat Five Storm) completed the finishing order. Cartel Dragon was scratched.
Masterpiece P&A Derby
JS SHEZAQUICKCHICK
by John Moorehouse
JS Shezaquickchick scored an upset victory in
the $21,573 Masterpiece Derby for Paints and Appaloosas. An 11-1 longshot, the three-year-old Paint filly led at every call of the 350 yards and beat heavy post-time favorite Mammy Jammer by 3/4-length.
Ismael Quijada owns JS Shezaquickchick, a Cosme Quijada trainee who picked up her fifth win in 17 career starts. The $9,630 payday from this event improved the filly’s total earnings to $66,043.
There was no catching JS Shezaquickchick in
the Masterpiece Derby. The sorrel filly broke on
top from the No. 7 gate and got stronger as the 350-yard event progressed. The filly led by a head at the first call and gained ground to sport a 1/2-length advantage going into the stretch en route to her breakthrough victory. Roman Cruz was aboard as JS Shezaquickchick finished the race in :17.863, posting a 91 speed index.
Shirley Wheeler bred JS Shezaquickchick out of Cartel Chicken APHA, a lightly-raced 2013 mare who competed in the 2016 running of the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby-G1.
Mammy Jammer APHA (CRM Livewire- Dashin DD), a 1-2 favorite at post time with five prior wins in stakes company, finished second in this one. Roy Kent Perkins is the owner and Ray Enlow is the trainer. Cody Wainscott had the riding assignment. WL Hector Lives APHA (Kool Wagon QH-Chivette) hit the board in third for Jeff Carter and Justin Massey. The Eddie D. Willis trainee had Justine Klaiber in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was Cuz Eyema Livewire APHA (CRM Livewire -Eye Mongoose QH), Spotted Wagon ApHC (BP Phoenix Reign QH-Treats On Me), Going Bye APHA (Bodacious Dash QH-Dial Judy), and Tales U Lose APHA (Wagon Tales QH-Elaina Go Go). This Wire Is Hot was scratched.
Ron Cook WYO Bred Futurity
CLASSIC DYNASTY DASH
by Danny Camp
Classic Dynasty Dash overcame a poor
start to score his first stakes victory in the $70,550 Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity held
at Wyoming Downs on July 24. Classic Dynasty Dash just squeezed into the finals, clocking in with the tenth fastest qualifying time after finishing third in his July 10 trial.
In the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity finals, Classic Dynasty Dash broke from the 9-post under jockey Joe Dominguez in seventh place, and he never gave up hope.
He hustled and encouraged until, at the mid- way point, they were a neck in front. At the wire, they were 3/4-length to the good.
Trained by Riley Moosman, Classic Dynasty Dash stopped the timer in :16.538 for a 102
speed index. The gelding also earned the $32,453 first place check, which ups his total earnings to $35,438 for owners Gordon Knudsen and Ron Moosman. His race record stands at three wins out of four races.
Ron and Laurie Moosman bred Classic Dynasty Dash out of Steffiesclassic Dash, who won the 2013 Hawkeye Futurity. The mare has produced three winners from four starters. Classic Dynasty Dash is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Second fastest qualifier Pieces Of Dynasty (Jr Dynasty Mountain-BF Pieces Of April) ran true to form, banking second place money for owners Andrea and Eddie Jensen. The Riley Moosman trainee had Jesus Valenzuela in the irons. Pieces Of Dynasty won her Ron Cook Futurity trial, and previously finished fifth in the Wyoming Bred Futurity on June 26.
SB Timetoshine (Turbulent Times-Southern Surfer Girl) found her groove in the finals under Oscar Cervantes. With a gritty race, she took home third place money. She is owned by Steve Berry and trained by Alvaro Torres. SB Timetoshine has yet to break her maiden.
VVR Workin Man (Whata Corona Runner- Proud Caption) finished in fourth place and was followed across the finish line by Eyesa Special Swirl (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Charolette Swirl), VVR Black Mountain (Jr Dynasty Mountain-Magnolia Lane), Lady White Fox (Adashofjess-Dream Hopper), UD Tootsie Roll (Pappasito-Bvlgari B), BK Wildkat (Pappasito- Lotta Kat Moves) and CD Gretta Da Great (BF Farm Boss-Kash).
