French Quarter Stakes
EYEONDAPRIZE
by Michael Compton
Eyeondaprize knows where the wire is. Now a 7-time winner, the 4-year-old filly scored the 2nd stakes win of her career with a game victory over odds-on
favorite Sheza Freighttrain T in the $35,000 French Quarter Stakes at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 30.
Ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, Eyeondaprize dueled with Sheza Freighttrain T in the early stages of the 330-yard event. In a determined drive through the lane, Eyeondaprize surged past a stubbon Sheza Freighttrain T to score by a head at the finish. The winner stopped the timer in :16.558, earning a speed index of 98. The final time wasn’t far off the :16.094 track record set by BJS Magic Wings in 2017.
Saddled by trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr., Eyeondaprize is campaigned by Rosendo Valdez. The win marked the seventh victory in 18 career starts for the daughter of Fast Prize Jordan who also annexed the Mother’s Day Stakes at Delta Downs in May and finished second in the Flashy Hemp Stakes, also at Delta Downs, in her previous outing. The $21,000 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings total to $110,160.
Bred in Louisiana by Daniel Trahan, Eyeondaprize is out of the Game Patriot mare Good Game Meg. Runner-up and multiple graded stakes winner

Gentilly Dash
STEAM ROLLYR
by John Moorehouse
Steam Rollyr chalked up his first career stakes victory on Nov. 20 at Evangeline Downs, outrunning the competition in the $29,450 Gentilly Dash.
Owned by Alejandro Sanchez Jr., Steam Rollyr secured his third win of the year and his fifth overall triumph in 14 starts. The four-year-old gelding brought home an $18,000 payday, increasing his total earnings to $82,955.
After finishing seventh in his most recent out, which also marked his stakes debut in the EVD Dash Stakes at this same track, Steam Rollyr bounced back nicely in this one. The Rosendo Valdez Jr. trainee broke on top from the 4-gate and led at every call of the 300-yard trip. Steam Rollyr opened a 1/2-length lead entering the stretch and pulled away late, finishing first by three-quarters.
Everardo Rodriguez was aboard for a run that took :15.174 and posted a 103 speed index.
Marco Ramirez and Gary Hartstack bred Steam Rollyr out of Jen Tilly, a lightly-raced 2010 mare.
Love The Way You Fly (Furyofthewind- Lovethewayyoulie) was the post-time favorite and already a restricted stakes winner but finished second here for owner Todd Matte and trainer Trey Ellis. Juan Garcia Jr. drew the riding assignment.
Jess B One (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess B Mighty) hit the board in third for Gene Cox. The Eric Long trainee had Bryan Candanosa aboard.
Heza Bell Perry Jr (Heza Fast Dash-De Bell Perry), Five Bar Miracles (Five Bar Cartel-Expect Miracles TB), Powerhouse Cartel (Mr Piloto-Corona Deluxe), Melas Miracle (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Wallstreet Darlin) and Domniksmiraclebaby (Coronas Leaving You-Martinis Jewel) completed the official order of finish.
Another pre-race favorite and last year’s winner of the Gentilly Dash, On Point broke through the gate prior to the start and ran off, leading to a scratch. JP Tempting Runaway also scratched.
