Maryland Magic, a 7-year-old son of PYC Paint Your Wagon trained by Jason Pascoe, outran his 9-1 odds to win the 440-yard Alex Picov
Memorial Championship at Ajax Downs on Oct. 27. Campaigned by Milena Kwiecien of Burlington, Ontario, and racing against a reported 17-mph head
wind on a track officially labeled “good,” Maryland Magic made his quarter-mile trip in :21.824, and his margin of victory was a neck from Countrys Comin Bac. The Maryland-bred stallion was ridden to victory by Rafael Hernandez, who at the time of his win stood second in the jockey standings at the nearby Woodbine Thoroughbred meet.
Maryland Magic was bred by Stephen M. Harris, and he was stretching out in distance just seven days off of a second-place finish in a 110-yard $11,629 allowance dash at Ajax Downs. Raced in Ontario and three U.S. states, the stallion has won 13 of 43 starts, and the $18,739 winner’s share of the $39,820 Alex Picov Memorial Championship purse pushed his earnings to $122,706.
Harris bred Maryland Magic out of winner Purley Un Social. The mare has produced three winners from five starters, including East Coast Prince, who was a finalist in the 2009 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity-RG1. Maryland Magic is her first stakes winner.
Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man-Bac To Center) was second for owner Ralph Pearson. Cassandra Jesschke rode the stakes-winning gelding for trainer Don Reid.
Had To Be Ivory (Ivory James-Had To Be Fandango) finished third for his owners, Carol Robertson and Jaime Robertson. Cory Spataro rode the hgelding for trainer Bryn Robertson.
Firing Red Jess (Mr Red Jess-Easily Holland) and Spy For The Senate (Louisiana Senator-Corona Spy) completed the order of finish.

Asharp break from post 4 helped Roberto Chacon’s Whirlaway Wagon earn his second career stakes victory in the $58,675 Texas Classic Juvenile at Lone Star Park on Nov. 27.
Prepped by James Gonzales III and racing on
a sloppy and sealed track, Whirlaway Wagon went 400-yards in :19.822 while defeating Hot Ivory Eyes by a head and recording a 92 speed index. Mario Delgado rode the bay son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Whirlaway Red.
Whirlaway Wagon was coming off of a neck victory in one of 18 Texas Classic Futurity trials during the weekend of Nov. 6-7. The gelding was bred in Oklahoma by Buckskin EC Inc., and he was a $19,000 buy at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Whirlaway Wagon is out of Lil Miss Party Doll, a winning 10-year-old daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon, and he is a half-brother to stakes winner Relentless Doll. Raced in two states, including Oklahoma, Whirlaway Wagon has won four of seven outs and has banked $85,851, and his early-season record includes a 1-length victory in the 330-yard $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile Stakes.
Second-placed Hot Ivory Eyes (Ivory James-Eye Agree) pocketed $17,603 to bring his earnings to $33,153 from five races for his owner, Paragon Farms LLC. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode the homebred colt for trainer Trey Wood. A $110,000 yearling purchase, Lucky Ladies’ Throwin Sumoke (Apollitical Jess- Sumokin) earned $8,801 for his third-place run. Ricky Ramirez rode the gray gelding for trainer Mike Joiner. Followed by U Go Gal (One Dashing Eagle-Apollitical Gal), KJ Wildthang (Apollitical Jess-Wild Six), Ryder Lee (Too Much Bling- Backwoods Bar B), Win In Doubt (Kiss My Hocks- Cascia Babe), Running A Big Wave (Big Daddy Cartel-Wave Running) & Especially Jess (Apollitical Jess-Especially Tres). Over a year ago, Miss Famous Eagle broke her maiden at Lone Star Park with jockey Jose Alvarez aboard. Her second career win came
with Alvarez aboard again in the Paragon Oaks, a 400-yard event at Lone Star Park that carried a total purse of $30,000.
Miss Famous Eagle stepped away from the 8-post and raced toward the back of the pack. Alvarez gave her the encouragement she needed and Miss Famous Eagle responded. They gained on the leaders every jump and they were in third at the top of the stretch. They powered through and crossed the first with
a bob of the head, stopping the timer at :19.637 to earn a 97 speed index and a first place check worth $17,080. Her earnings stand at $104,356, and her race record is two wins from 14 starts.
Her team includes owner LMG Racing Inc. and trainer Michael Joiner. She was bred in Oklahoma by Sam W. Green out of the mare Ms Southern Dynasty, who earned a little over $90,000. She has produced 21 foals, with Uptown Dynasty as her best product.
SS Classyjess (Rock Solid Jess-High Class Broad) was coming off a three in a row win streak. She banked second place money for owner Edgar Rosales and trainer Jose Carrizales. Juan Garcia was handling the reins.
Macs Lady M (Favorite Cartel-Annas Babe)
ran a steady and even race to pocket the third place check for owner Jorge Magallanes and trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. Juan Pulido was in the irons.
Followed by Preyn Onthe Mountain (Ivory James- Prey), Jess A Dashin Angela (Dash Master Jess-Mi Angela), Silk And Stilettos (Favorite Cartel-Tallulah Moon), Ec Abella (Valiant Hero-Fast Prize Tracy), Golly Jess (Jesse James Jr-Golly Zee), Jess Eleven Or Seven (Jess Louisiana Blue-Eleven To Seven), Valiant Memorie (One Valiant Hero-Painted Memorie) & Dashing Coronado (Coronado Cartel-Enticilizeur).
