Oklahoma Derby-G3
CARD ONE STARTER
by Michael Compton
Card One Starter extended his winning streak to three and joined the ranks of stakes winners with a determined victory in the
$251,600 Oklahoma Derby-G3 at Remington Park on March 20.
A dominating 1 1/2-length victor of his March 7 trial heat in his first start of the year, Card One Starter had to work a little harder to win the main event.
With jockey Juan Pulido back aboard— Pulido had piloted the 3-year-old bay gelding in his trial—Card One Starter broke alertly from his inside draw. He broke in 4th position, but quickly engaged for
the lead, which he held from the first call onward. He battled with Apollitical Redflash the rest of the way, holding that one at bay
to prevail by a head at the finish as the 3-2 race favorite.
Trained by Edelmiro Carrizales, Card One Starter stopped the timer in :17.635 for the 350 yards, earning an 87 speed index.
