DOG CHOICE
by Danny Camp
Every dog has his day, and Dog Choice had his in the $31,000 Double JK Ranch Stakes at Arizona Downs on Aug. 31.
A 5-year-old brown gelding, Dog Choice broke from the 9 post in a generic fashion and in 5th place. Enter jockey Martin Osuna. With plenty of encourage- ment, the pair made the lead as they neared the wire.
They crossed the wire a head in front, complete- ing the 300 yards in :15.573 for a 92 speed index. Trained by Roy Ronquillo, the gelding earned the $17,980 winner’s share of the purse for owner Ariana Garcia, boosting his total bankroll to $24,276. Dog Choice has now won three races from eight starts, and he was a finalist in the AQRA-Turf Paradise Derby.
Garcia bred Dog Choice, out of winner Tiny Wood Choice. She has produced two foals, with Dog Choice as her first starter.
Liddle Doc (Fdd Dynasty-Her Dashiness) got away from the number four post in great shape. He got the first call and was able to hold on for second place for owners Mary and John Allred, who also trains the gelding. Kevin Carbajal was in the saddle.
Arizona Chrome (FDD Dynasty-One Flying Cookie) ran a steady and even race to bank third place money under Juan Ramirez for owner Marco A. Orona, trained by Antonio Ballesteros.

Skysthalimitcarver seems to run a couple of ticks faster with every out. This time it was in the run- ning of the $30,600 Westfork Ranch Stakes held at Arizona Downs on Aug. 31.
The filly stepped away from the number four post and immediately took command, running the fastest race she has run to date.

in front of the field. Jockey Elias Gutierrez easily guided her to the wire-to-wire victory. They crossed the line 2 1/2-lengths in front, completing the 300- yards in :15.627.
