Mosaic, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America (ELCA) began 100 years ago as Bethphage
Mission in Axtell, Nebraska, later joining with Martin
Luther Homes. Mosaic now serves more than 3,800
people in 250 communities in ten states in the U.S.,
and more internationally.
Partnering with Building a Caring Community (BCC)

and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania,
Mosaic provides services to more than 200 children
and young adults with intellectual disabilities in the
Moshi area of Tanzania.

Services are offered through BCC’s network of day
centers in Moshi and by outreach workers who visit
children and young adults not able to travel to the
centers on a daily basis. Supportive staff monitor
health and nutrition, offer guidance to caregivers and
make referrals for specialized care.
