CLIA is the only Department of Justice-accredited non-

profit organization in Lincoln that provides a full array of

legal immigration services. The Center grew from a July 2001
request by United Methodist Ministries of Lincoln to

establish a “poverty law clinic.” It soon became clear that

there was a shortage of immigration attorneys in the state
and that many of those in need of services could not afford
an attorney. In the years that followed, the Center for Legal
Immigration Assistance’s primary goal became “to serve, as
efficiently and effectively as possible, as many of these
immigrants as we can.”
