  8. HYGIENE, HEALTH & SAFETY
8.5 Smoking
SMOKING is strictly forbidden in all work premises areas, including vehicles used for work purposes be they privately or company owned or hired. Smoking in unauthorised areas represents a food hygiene risk and a breach of legislation and as such will result in serious disciplinary action. Where working on a client’s site, you should make yourself aware of, and adhere to their rules and procedures as regards smoking, at all times. Where rules are breached formal disciplinary action may be followed.
8.6 Personal Hygiene:
i. Hands:
• Must be washed frequently when you are handling raw foods.
• Must be washed after you have used the lavatory or your handkerchief.
• Must be washed at the hand basin and NEVER at the kitchen sink.
• Must be washed after breaks, when you re-enter the kitchen or food area,
particularly after SMOKING.
• Must be washed after touching your hair, nose, mouth or face etc.
• Must not be wearing nail varnish, bracelets, ornate or stoned rings and
must have clean finger nails.
ii. Your Person
Thomas Franks are a customer & food service company. For hygiene and good relations reasons, you must ensure you maintain excellent personal hygiene standards. This means a clean body, clean hair & hands EVERYDAY. The use of an effective antiperspirant or deodorant is recommended. Your hair must be tidy, tied back if long and adequately covered (if required) when on duty.
8.7 Perfume and Jewellery
You are not permitted to wear highly scented perfume or watches and jewellery, except plain wedding rings and sleeper earrings or plain studs, outside your uniform. Pendants must be kept inside your dress or uniform and kept covered to prevent burns or accidents.
