 8. HYGIENE, HEALTH & SAFETY
8.8 Appearance and Uniform
Your uniform or work clothes must be clean, pressed and fresh every day. You should not wear a uniform outside of work, but change when you arrive and when you leave. Shoes, hats and other protective and safety equipment must be clean and be used daily. This equipment is provided for your safety. You will only be allowed to discontinue its use for a certified medical reason and if you agree to accept personal responsibility for any decreased level of protection that such action may invoke.
8.9 Medical Conditions & Food Hygiene
Thomas Franks is a conscientious employer and we would not expect our colleagues to put themselves or our clients, visitors or customers at risk. Certain Medical conditions make it impossible for Food Handlers to carry out their normal duties, without causing risk to others; it is therefore important that you inform your line manager if you:
1. Are suffering from or have recently been in contact with typhoid, paratyphoid or dysentery.
2. Have any bowel infection accompanied by diarrhoea and symptoms of fever or vomiting.
3. Have septic cuts or sores, skin eruptions or boils, or discharges from the ears or eyes.
4. Have confirmed food poisoning in any member of your household.
Under such circumstances you may be instructed to obtain a Medical Clearance Certificate before you will be permitted to return to work. In the case of an intestinal disorder (a) and (b) above, you will not be allowed to return to work until you have been free of symptoms for 48 hours and in some case, until you have been stools tested and cleared by your doctor. If you knowingly conceal the fact that you are either suffering from an illness likely to contaminate food, or have been in direct contact with such a person, you may be causing a food safety risk. As such this action will be treated as serious misconduct, or under certain circumstances, gross misconduct.
