7.5 Choosing the power supply unit and drive
FFE200 • Fundamental Front End Regenerative Power Supply Unit
Design 1. Single-motor applications
FFE200 drives are used in applications that require the re- 3ph 400Vac 3ph 400Vac
introduction of power into the mains. 50Hz 50Hz

This section provides some examples of design:
1. Single-motor applications
2. Multi-motor applications LR3-4-PRC LR3-4-FFE-550
3. Multi-motor applications where regenerated power is a
small percentage of motor power.

Note! For special applications please contact techno-
help@gefran.com.
The application requires 100% of motor and regenerating
power of a single asynchronous motor with 150% overload for
DC-link voltage depends on mains voltage, and under nominal 60s every 300s.
load conditions is about 1.3 times the AC supply voltage.
Therefore, for a 400VAC three-phase mains under nominal Vmains = three-phase 400[V]
load conditions, the DC-link voltage is about Poutm = 250[KW]
400Vac * 1.35 = 540Vdc. Voutm = 400[V]
The same calculation must be used for a 690Vac mains or ηm = 0.95
other supply.
> Calculation of the current required on the DC-link:
Vdc=Vmains [V]* 1.35=400*1.35=540 [V]
1000 1000
Pdc = Poutm [kW] * = 250 * = 271300 [W]
(µm* µd) 0,95 * 0,97
Pdc [W] 271300
Idc = = = 502 [A]
Vdc [V] 540
> Choosing the power supply unit and accessories:
The chosen FFE200 power supply must be able to deliver cur-
rent ≥ 502[A] with 150% overload.
Choose the size with the appropriate voltage and current
characteristics from section "7.7 Output Data" on page 121 (see
column DC output current @ 380…500VAC – Heavy Duty):
no.1 FFE200-550-4+PRC
The added code +PRC indicates that the power supply has a
precharge circuit for the condenser bank on the DC-link.
Choose the mains inductance and the FFE precharge induct-
ance from section "10.2.1. Input choke (L1 - CA)" on page 148:
