WHAT'S HAPPENING AT WYNYARD
What's happening at Wynyard
Stopping to smell the rhododendrons
Wynyard residents visited the Emu Valley
Rhododendron Garden on 19th January
2017 as part of International Flower Day.
Leading up to the event, residents were
engaged in hand making felt flowers to
wear on the day. This outing allowed
residents to explore their 5 senses; taste –
Devonshire. Sight-the beautiful gardens.
Sound- the water falls and fountains on
the property. Touch – the leaves on the
plants. Smell – the scent of the flowers.
Convicts and Chocolate Biscuits
A large part of Tasmanian culture is the history of the convicts.
During January we have been cooking up convict recipes from an
original convict recipe book that features ex-Convict Bessie
Baldwin. Bessie was was cook to Sir John and Lady Franklin at
Government House between 1842 and 1849. While the residents
are engaged in cooking they are also listening to the story of
Bessie Baldwin and chatting about the rations for convicts
engaged in hard labour. The residents talked for hours while
cooking chocolate biscuits (no cooking)!
