excuses or give them occasion to make excuses for bad
behavior. Teach and demonstrate to children the
importance of being respectful and taking responsibility
for one’s own actions.
Month - long “race” related celebrations present a
particular conundrum in that they have become
especially popular in secular culture. They have even
become a standard recognition within the church. The
question becomes - If these are based on a false and
discredited concept of “race” that is antithetical to
Biblical Truth, why are they celebrated in the Christian
Church? Yes, it is important that the contributions and
history of various people groups are taught. But from a
Biblical perspective should they be taught as a matter of
so-called race focused histories?
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the “Father of Black History
Month” believed that, "We should emphasize not Negro
history, but the Negro in history,” Woodson said. “What
we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but
the history of the world void of national bias, race, hate

and religious prejudice." It seems his view of how
history should be taught is more in line with the
Christian perspective than what we currently practice. It
should be taught and recognized in a more unified
