Acknowledge our nations’ past failures but be sure to
teach, emphasize, and celebrate, the many strides we
have taken to correct our moral compass. Do not
rewrite history or align ourselves with any person or
group that attempts to do so. Avoid the historical
malpractice trap of “modernism.” That is viewing a
historical event or person through a 21st century lens.
That lends itself to inaccuracies in understanding and
woefully tainted perspectives.
Teach our children. Proverbs 22:6 (ESV) – Train up a
child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he
will not depart from it.
When our children begin to ask questions about their
color of skin which all children do, do not teach the child
that their identity is based on skin color and that they
belong to a particular “race.” Remember children are
very smart. Take time to train your children in the truth
of the Word of GOD regarding humankind. Teach them
it’s good to acknowledge and even celebrate diverse
ethnicities. However, it is in error to anchor their self-
identities and self-worth to skin color or ethnicity.
Respond to legitimate authority. Be frank and
unwavering in teaching children how to respect
legitimate authority and the potential consequences of
an unjustified challenge of that authority. Do not make
